i had an after hours gig with Ronnie Foster again tonight and he tells me- " we have some guests tonight "
they were in town doing a show, so none other than Stanley Clarke and George Duke came in and had dinner and stuff- we were hoping ot get them onstage , but they were bushed..
Stanley was cool though, and i got my pic taken with him.. not my camera and not digital , so i will have to wait. |

Wonder if Stanley is as self-effacing, humble and kind as the few ( really few!) great players I've met?
Don't answer! I'll just keep thanking our Maker for making bassists some of the coolest cats on the planet and helping me become one.

I think if Stanley Clarke walked in on a gig of mine i would think "well, here's to hoping i can hold myself together".

i really wasn't! it's not because i think i am great or anything, but i was relaxed, first of all, i knew i wasn't going to play anything Stanley has not played/heard before. I was in the same room with the bass hero of my youth, but i had a peace about me ( read my sig below )
also in the room was probably Vega's finest electric bassist, roschon Westmoreland - the guy is a monster player and i have all the respect in the world for him- but again, hey, i can only do what i do, and i made it a point not to start wanking in front of them... i was on a gig after all and had to earn my check. It was a very cool evening. You never know who will show up when you are playing with Ronnie Foster. Last week it was David Sanborn and his bassist Richard Patterson, but i wasn't there that night. |
