So, now that THE CARS are back, who's playin' bass?

The video teaser shows them in the studio, even looks like Greg on bass in a few quick views, but I guess I'm more curious about when they go out on tour.
Anyone know?

I'm not talking about "The New Cars".

Don't buy their record. Simple.

While I have a bit of a soft-spot for Lady Gaga (her strangeness cracks me up), I have to agree. And I can't begrudge ANY Musician, '70s or otherwise, from making a living. I've just had my fill of petty/skynard/cars/zep/etc, having grown up in the '70s and played in bar bands in the '80s. But the free market rarely supports excellence - behold budweiser.

And it's a good guess that I will *not* be buying any new Cars records, nor will I be attending their casino shows. I did, however, buy an old Maceo Parker CD last week...

I must say I'm absolutely curious why, considering your strong dislike of The Cars, you'd even look at this thread, much less post to it. Just curious.

I have a stonger appreciation for The Cars now than I did back in their heyday. They wrote some pretty classy, catchy pop rock. Our band does a couple of their tunes and they never fail to please.

Sad that Ben Orr passed away so young. Just over 10 years...Oct. 3, 2000. Kasim seems like a good fit but what about the vocals? Forgot how much singing Ben did until I watched some youtube vids last week.

Kasim has a great voice and nailed Ben's "signature" tune "Drive". May be Kasim, obviously 2 of the 4 guys are cool with him.

Kasim is great. First saw him back in 1977 or so in Todd Rundgren's Utopia. Just didn't realize that Kasim stepped up for lead vocals. Always thought of him as a support player. Cool.

I'm pulling for Richard Page, formerly of Mister Mister.

Blonde
Good vocals
Plays bass
Writes songs
'80s cred
Better fit than Sting

Someone else on here suggested Page in a thread from a couple months ago. Can't imagine a better fit.

Cool. It's that "Cars Meet Kraftwerk" thing they do sometimes.

I'm stoked. Always been a big fan.

I guess it stands to reason if you didn't like them first time around, you won't like the reload either.

Kasim's voice is much better suited for the Cars than Richard's IMO. And I'm a Mr. Mister and Utopia fan.

Give me a frigging break - how can you have The Cars without Ric Ocasek and Benjamin Orr??? Ridiculous!

The New Cars are not that bad. Kasim is a monster bass player and musician in general anyway. Todd's voice works. Not the real thing but they sound good compared to say, Blondie who IMHO is really a very slight facsimile of their former selves.

So, does Kasim sing all the hit songs that Ben sang?
