I'm looking to see if there are any/many solo bassist singers out there. I was a singer way before I ever took up bass, and I can't imagine my musical life without my voice. So I want to combine these two loves.
If you have any recommendations, please share links and YouTube videos. I really want to see what types of things are out there to figure out where I want to fit in.
I've seen Trip Wamsley sing and play live, and I thought he slayed the crowd. A friend here on TB also gave me a YouTube link to Nathan Hughes which I thought was pretty good.

Anyhow, I am looking forward to any suggestions the TB collective might have for me. Thank you.

I would really like to get into solo bass (and plan on doing so after I get a nice looper), and thought about singing at the same time. Granted, I'm not that great of a singer, but I thought it would be good to have another tool of expression.

| | | | I am a good singer. I want a 6 string bass and tune it to EADGBE.
Is it a good idea?

| | | | I do some solo playing/singing at some local open mics - but not like any of the people you've cited. I don't do much in the way of chords (other than some double stops) and for the most part, I'm just playing slightly-modified "standard" bass lines (and sometimes just root notes). As a general rule, if I can get folks to sit in with me on stuff and make it a pick-up band, I do - solo is just my fallback position.

He doesn't actually qualify as a bass solist as he plays the coolest homemade instruments on the planet. It's like 2 stainless steel tubes with strings attached. It also has what look like midi triggers on it as well. I think he uses some programmed tracks as well as a loopstation. To top it all off he is playing two drum pedals with midi triggers as well. I bet he is one interesting dude. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AcmrY...eature=related |
