God bless Larry Graham! He'll be 65 this year, and I hope he keeps going strong. No matter how many chops newer players have, bass will never get better than what he laid down, IMHO.

He is Funk-A

Yep, Larry Graham is the source. Here's some more of the master that I came upon last year:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ipjTvRe7-Zg

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENe5snEvzHM

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yq8VZDz5lEc I like him explaining his pedals.

But there's a lot of Larry Graham on Youtube.

Other than being an embodiment of funk, what I love about Larry is the pure JOY he exudes while playing - truly a beautiful and genuine thing.

That being said, he also has serious funk faces in effect too

Here's my favorite Larry Graham performance clip - Sly and the Family Stone perform at a televised talent contest and take the $10k prize! Makes me wonder if bands today even realize it's possible to be this great...

I do like me some LG - He's the Daddy, baby!

funny thing about that first video - it was *not* very old - the keyboards give it away. 10 years old at most.

A lot of people seem to slap because they can. Larry Graham seems to slap because he just can't help it. That's why I love to hear him slap, and all others not quite so much.
