Are we just as egotistical as guitarists?

Think about it and look on this forum. I'm guilty of it at times. Not saying everyone is, this is just something I've noticed on here.

CLUB?

I am just as egotistical as most, and far moreso than others. The difference w/me is that my uber-coolness & monstrous groovitude totally merit it.
OK, kidding about meriting it, but IMO it can be just as elitist/snooty/egotistical to say *I'm so not that*. So for me, yeah, I occasionally catch myself thinking I'm all that. I'm usually humbled soon thereafter.

I think bassists can have huge egos, but most of us have egos that work differently from guitarists. I think most guitarists have huge ego over their solos and riffs. Bassists love their solos and riffs too, but we also take a huge amount of pride in anchoring a tight groove. I think a bassist is kind of like an offensive lineman in American football. We can't touch the ball, but we take pride in opening up holes or keeping back the defense and allowing the offense to do its thing.

It's called healthy self-appreciation. If not me, whom?

You're right, I think we're proud not only when we play technical grooves or solos, but also when just one of our notes makes the entire band sound tight...!
