Sound Tribe Sector 9 and moe. are two of the most popular bands on the jamband scene right now. They both have great bass players.
Rob Derhak (moe.) plays some funky basslines in a lot of their songs. If you haven't heard any of their stuff, I really recommend checkin them out. They have a sort of Allman Bros/way far out psychedelic sound to them. One of their best songs IMO, basswise is "32 Things", Rob just slaps the hell out of his bass throughout that song. He also really knows how to solo.
Then there is David Murphy (sts9). Sound tribe has a more electronic sound but it's still classified as "jam band". If it wasn't for the slow melodic grooves that Murph puts down on bass, sound tribe wouldnt really have the sound they do. I recomend checking them out as well.
hope you guys check out both these bands

Moe. is ok, I have a few cds and a few live boots, but I can't say they are in my top ten. Rob is certainly a good bass player though |

He found out I was a musician (bassist in general) and asked if I liked electronica at all. I kinda do, but this stuff is interesting, it's right on the border of jam band and electronica. Interesting stuff, he let me watch a live DVD, looked like a helluva live show.

Plus i saw Murph (sts9's bassist) play an all star jam with the Benevenito Russo duo, the new deal, the guitarist from the disco biscuits and Karsh Kale on percussion that was totally outta control. |

| | | | Not so sure about STS9, what I've heard has been a little to "electronic" for me but I'm a big fan of moe. and Rob's playing.

But I still really dig his playing. |

The man knows how to lay down some funky stuff, and them move into such tasteful and supportive bass lines that fit so well with their music. The best part of moe. is seeing them live though. Killer killer show that left even my dad wanting to go to another. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
