Spinoff: Bass styles?

As a spinoff from the Micheal Anthony argument thread, what's your style?

I've played in many different types of bands, but basically I like to rock. Currently I'm in two rock bands, but I play very differently in each one.

In one band, it's about holding a bottom and desperately trying to keep some questionable musicians glued together. the part of it that I enjoy is backing up to the amp and feeling the rumble... wearing the sound like a warm sweater There's no need to be playing all kinds of runs and fills; the songs don't call for it, I don't need the attention and it would just confuse the others. Did I mention that they were questionable musicians?

In the other band, it is quite the opposite indeed... I can't get a rest for all the runs and fills I'm playing. Some of those songs involve playing as many as 240 notes per minute... boy, am I ever working CHEAP!

I get about the same amount of compliments in each band, which tells me that both approaches are equally important. It kinda makes me wonder what the Anthony-bashers are playing.... hmm...

So what's your style, and are you happy with it?

I'm somewhere between Steve Harris and Geezer Butler, but half as good. Power chords, pentatonic fills, gallops, tons of treble and a propensity to place a foot up on anything and machine gun whatever is in front of me.

I'm still trying to reach the style and sound that I want. I would like to have a style with elements from Jazz (jaco, berlin, joe pass), Arabic Oud (Hazem Shaheen) and Flamenco (Carles Benovent). Micro tonality is something I'd like to work in increasingly, the wealth of moods and harmonies available beyond 12 tone is a frontier in music that hasn't been taken full advantage of. It's getting there, I've found that playing in a Tech-Death Metal band has really helped since the genre is so open for experimentation.
