I am suprised not to see more discussion around him, or maybe it happened already. Even though I mentioned Victor Wooten being the one I would vote for the top, I think honestly no great bass played talk can go by without talking about Stanley.
I saw him in concert with TRIO, Bela Fleck, Stan, JeanLucPonty unbeleivable stuff, all the technique you want but with maturity and wisdom, complexity...
After the intro I felt that I got my moneys worth. |

they came out and he flew a monster riff across the complete neck like it was nothing. As a a young kid it left a lasting impression
Have felt like I suck since |

Very cool player, I was actually listening to East River Driver not 10 minutes ago, but my favourite work by him is certainly "If This Bass Could Only Talk".
I love his tone too, very cool stuff! He has had quite a sizeable impact on my sound as a bass player, props to Stan! |

Truly a hero of mine - he's done it all - and did it as good as anybody.

Everone talks about Jaco (deservedly so) but in my memory Stanley was the first great electric bassist of the late 60's/early 70's. I got to see him live on one of his first solo tours. It was simply unbelievable. |

School Days rules though.

Although his technique and melodies are out of my reach , I do practice playing some of his tunes, and intro's. I learn a lot from digging into his stuff.
All the favourites, "School Days", "Lopsi Loo", amaizing "Light as a feather" also can't forget "Hair" although that song is by Larry Graham I believe.
I just love the way his bass grooves and sings at the same time. Such a great mix of rithm and melody. |

Correct! Very cool cover, and getting Satch in was an inspired move!
And yes, he was indeed the first bassist to have a solo tour. I wish I could have seen that, I hear Stanley is amazing live. I suppose I'll just content myself with going to see level 42 in October (Mark King has taken a huge amount of influence from Stan!). |

Very nice guys, I love their strings too. |

It sounded nice, I think Stanley can make any bass sound nice. |

After the intro I felt that I got my moneys worth. | I went to see the TRIO here in Ottawa, but that was the gig where Stanley didn't make it because he had problems at the border.
A local bassist and drummer filled in. I'll bet it was a memorable evening for them!!! |
