I HATE LIVING IN FLORIDA!

No one ever freaking comes here. Well, Rush does.

To the contrary - almost all of the major rock tours -- recently and soon, Rush, U2, Tom Petty, Roger Waters, Lady Gaga, lots of hip-hoppers and tweeny-bopper acts -- come to our area, WAY more than when I moved to Tampa in '88.
And Stanley Clarke was just here a year ago or so with RTF at Ruth Eckerd Hall.
Now when it comes to high-level jazz or fusion acts, you're right - we get very few of those here.

Rush yes
U2 no
Tom Petty no
Roger Waters yes
Lady Gaga: OH GOD NO!

I should probably rephrase what I said to say that no one I really like comes to Tampa, and when they do it's usually at the freakin Ice Palace, which is such a god awful venue for music it makes me cry. We have the forum for Pete's sake, and they put everyone in the Ice Palace.

Well, the St. Pete Times Forum IS the Ice Palace, but maybe you're thinking about the Ford Amphitheater, which IS a much better place to see shows.

I saw a couple of great shows at the Amphitheater - Radiohead and, before that, Tom Petty with the Black Crowes.

As far as large arenas go, the Forum, to me, isn't significantly worse than other big arenas I've been to - and I've been to a bunch, as seeing and reviewing shows used to be my job. The Forum is way better than the USF Sun Dome, which not so long ago was the dominant big arena in the area.

The Police reunion tour came to the Ice Palace, and I thought it was pretty great- band sounded better than ever, IMO. In years past, I saw good shows there by Prince, Smashing Pumpkins, The Who, and a few others.

Roger Waters and Tom Petty are both coming to the Forum fairly soon, and I'd go if I could afford the tickets, but Live Nation and Ticketmaster have pretty much conspired to keep tickets sky-high these days - as in, $100+ for just "okay" seats.

I just listed Lady Gaga as an example of one of the many major tours that play our area. I'm not a fan.

Not sure what kind of music you like, but between the Forum, the Amphitheater, Ruth Eckerd Hall, Straz (formerly TBPAC) and the Mahaffey, practically all the major rock/pop tours come here. And a lot of the indie/smaller rock/pop/jam acts play places like the Ritz, Crowbar, Orpheum, and New World in Ybor, the State Theater in St. Pete and a few other places.

Wait till the fall when he is at the Blue Note, you can sit literally 4 feet away from the band . Oh Yeah!

I'm surprised he's playing 4 nights here in ST. Louis. Need to mark the calendar for that one.
