Stanley Clarke w/Animal Logic

HOW does dude get this insane tone? I know it's 99% him, but I'm wondering what the whole setup consists of. I liked the studio cut of this tune, but this is crazy:

Yeah, that was a great listen!

Alembic basses are a big factor in his sound. I have never seen him use anything else and they definitely work for him.

AFAIK, he started with Gibson EB basses and then discovered Alembic.

I saw this band many years ago, just great! Stanley will always be The Man!

In between the Gibson EB-2 (which I believe he deployed on the very first Return To Forever album, the ECM one that includes "La Fiesta") and the Alembic Series I, Stanley had a Rickenbacker 4000. Pretty sure that's what he's playing on RTF's Hymn Of The Seventh Galaxy album.

I also saw a DVD of RTF from Germany in the mid 70's with Stanley playing a Ric through an Acoustic amp. Funny it still sounded like him.

It very well could be because he got his first Alembic in 1973 and the HoTSG album was released in 1973.

Here's a video on his set up.

IIRC, the guys from Alembic "discovered" him (saw Clarke in-concert, told him his playing was great but his sound wasn't happening...we have a bass we would like you try, etc).
