Steely Dan in Concert

Sign in to disble this ad
I saw Steely Dan in concert last night; the best sounding concert I have ever been to, literally CD quality sound. Freddie Washington on bass grooved his butt off on an old P bass. Keith Carlock on drums is downright frightening he is so good, reminded me Vinnie Coliuta. Two killer background vocalists that were so good Fagen let them lead on a couple of tunes.

They're actually coming to the Fox Theatre here in STL later this month. Me and brother are probably gonna go catch it. Hopefully there's some decent seats left.

I wish they'd come back to the UK. I saw them on their first tour back, in 1996 in Glasgow. The best gig I've ever seen. Missed them last time round because I was abroad.

+1 I saw that same band when Fagan did a solo gig at the Opera House in Detroit a while back. Wonderful sounding stuff.

I actually greatly prefer their original touring bassist (Tom Barney). Much better tone (more appropriate to the material). Freddie played great but sounded like mush to me in the mix.

I like Tom Barney so it would have been cool to see him but Freddie's P bass tone last night sat in the mix nicely. When he had a little solo I thought he sounded muddy but inside the mix he sounded really good.

Their Montreal show was incredible musically but just ok sound wise. Not much clear low end in the mix. Not much definition below the toms.

I saw steely dan a few months back in Birmingham, Freddie was in a deep groove! and his tone was very boomy, which worked, but like someone said, it doesent really work in a solo setting, doing a solo on a Precision doesent sound that great, i think they sound good when sitting in the pocket though.

No doubt...wish SD would let him have a little more freedom on the studio tracks.

Saw them a few months back at the Tower Theater and the mix was horrid. Could have been a great show, I didn't hear it.

$120.00 to sit in the 10th row (slightly stage right)...

New sound man that night we were told.

That's a big reason why I haven't been to a concert in years...my $ is better spent on albums.

That is the one thing I was concerned about; paying big bucks for tickets and being disappointed by the sound quality. I noticed right away when they started that the volume was very moderate for a larger concert. I don't know if it was the venue or that they just got he sound together after so many concerts.

That is my attitude lately, but it was Steely Dan.

I do have seats for RTF Tuesday....
