I'll be in the US during the first two weeks of february, first San Francisco and then Boston. Are there any mandatory things to visit/do there ?
On another note, I'll be able to test a pharaoh and a mountainking heavy machine next week (and the heavy machine is for sale!).

Plus, I have Ampegfuzz's problem of being broke. | I've been thinking about your guitarists situation since last night, I personally love the newer Orange amp's especially the TV200 and RV100. No they are not the old amps of yore, but they are amazing sounding modern voiced amps. Listening to the live video you posted the other day and listening to his tone the TV200 might not be a bad option. It will give him a very usable dirt that will starkly contrast the cutting nature of the big spider, while also have the headroom and low end handling necessary to make use of the Big Spider efficiently. If he's selling that Fender bass and can get enough money to buy a used TV200 I think it would actually be a really good move. I also feel that the TV's dirt tone will match your gnarly overdriven bass tone as a consistent dirt tone more so than the BS. Also as far as 200watt heads being overkill for guitar I call BS, I have three of them and they allow me clean tone and more headroom at gigging volumes with out any break up or drastic alterations in tone through the volume spectrum of the amp, I never use all 200 watts but if I need it its there. Better to have to much and not use it, then not have enough and need it. Just a lil food for thought.

Plus, I have Ampegfuzz's problem of being broke. | I more of a cheap ass then broke . I only allow myself gear money from what I make gigging or selling. Speaking of selling I'm really thinking of putting my grabber on the block. Someone talk me out of it. |

My Dearmound Starfire, I regret selling that big time, I was really stupid for that one. It was a fuzz monster. Small neck though.
Along with my 67 Guild Small body.
And I regret selling my Ampeg 1x15, only because I didnt take my "cool" grill cover off. |

And thanks for the advice on the amp stuff, guys. My main concern was finding my guitar player an amp that would play nice with the distortion. I know when I had my Crate 2-12" tube combo, it did not like any more distortion on top of the dirty channel. I always had to run the amp clean if I wanted to run any fuzz pedals. I was concerned that a new amp would eliminate the Big Spider. I guess it doesn't really matter too much though. If he has the means to grab up a TV200, I might as well let him get it. If it doesn't work with the BS, lesson learned for him. Can't always throw money at stuff, right?
But, I wish I could talk him into grabbing up a Dunwich amp. Help out the bros.

But with his amp on the way out he might not like to hear the words "wait list"

I wish I could talk him into getting something cheaper like a SS Marshall then he could order up a Dun'ner. I think I am screaming at a wall at this point. We are probably going to be welcoming the TV any day now... lol. (of course now that I am typing all about it, with my curse, it won't happen.)

We got a show in a month and I am still waiting to find out who we play with. How long should I wait before I harass the venue? I want to start advertising it, but I don't have all the details. I also don't want to sour up a new relationship.

Thought it sounded surprisingly good, especially having owned several DS-1's in the past. But that DS-1 through the meatsmoke, well it sounds pretty amazing. Granted most of my gain pedals are sounding pretty awesome through the MS, but the DS-1 has the most noteable improvement. Pretty awesome what a good pre can do for pedals. |

All your bandmates are here, we need to have a serious talk. Drummer starts crying. "We used to be so close, it's like I don't even know you anymore. It's like you don't even care about anyone or anything. I'm afraid of losing my friend to modern mid scoop."

I bought that album randomly in a record store in 2000, because I thought the cover looked cool. Fortuitous choice as it turned out, love me some Orange Goblin.

I like that they were a little more space-rock on that album. They stripped it down a lot for the next two records. |

Dude wouldn't give up his Zoom multifx unit, which he was using for his main distortion. It was the most icepick-in-the-ear, scooped tone I've ever heard. It literally hurt my ears.
He came into some money and went shopping for a new head. I took him to a store and he plugged into mesas, marhsalls, peavey tube heads, etc. Every single amp he tried out he used that stupid zoom unit and the same distortion setting.
"Well, these amps don't sound any better than the one I have."
"That's because you're using that out-dated piece of **** Zoom unit. Just plug in to the amp."
He wouldn't do it. Ended up with a 5150 and used the clean channel, with that damn zoom thing. The band fell apart shortly after. I was glad to not hear his awful tone. |
