That was until my buddy in cstvt texted me while I was walking my dog after work, to inform me that there was a verellen meat smoke preamp on CL (and only about 10 minutes away). I didn't need one, and our friend had the actual meat smoke head which was cool but not exactly mind blowing (IMO of course). Then I saw the price...
$350 for what could be considered a brand new meat smoke pre. Needless to say I was in contact with the guy within minutes, and within the hour it was mine.
Wasn't sure if I was gonna keep it (but for $350 I could not pass it up) but after some tweaking around I have to say its totally a keeper. I'm bypassing the pre on my GK and using the MS as the pre and it sounds amazing.
I probably won't use it live too often, but at home, in the studio, and the random jam where I can't bring my amp this thing is perfect.
Anyways, enough of my rambling, here's how I'm rolling at home now....
| That little GK combo looks awesome! What is it? And gig pic |

The GK is a 115BC by the looks and weight of it I'd have to guess it's from the 80's somewhere. It actually sounds great as an inconvenient to carry practice amp (but I was always a GK fan) but the MS pre is just a different great sound. So it's nice to have the option to switch between them if I miss the GK tone.
Also ampeg, we have the same color combo Ric, just thought I'd put that out there. |

Love the solo!!! And if you ever play in the closer to the quad cities bring the Ric, we'll do some big bottom spinal tap style.

If we`re talking: weed,it felt more fun and creative,BUT I couldn`t remember any of the bass lines I had made up. So I stopped smoking if I planned on keeping anything.(although I could have just smoked less as already mentioned ) As of now I don`t smoke pot anymore.
I`ve really enjoyed playing bass while stoned on LSD. The creative process was very fluid and enveloping. I wrote a bass line once that I felt was the musical equivalent of a panther`s heartbeat, very powerful, slinky and groovy. Then my dad stuck his head in my bedroom and said "What the fvck are you doing!?! You`ve been playing the same 3 notes for 45 minutes!" Ignoring that fact that I played the same 3 notes for an hour,I still rank LSD up there as a fun/creative addition to jamming out. It doesn`t have to be just LSD. Mushrooms,DMT,2C-B,2C-I,AMT and just about any other psychedelic lends itself well.
MDMA is a lot of fun in general but I would say that in order to be a useful companion to playing music you have to take a much smaller dose than you would normally. Too much MDMA and everything you play sounds like the worlds greatest riff. And that`s if you still have the motor coordination to even play your bass. My friends and I used to called it "mashed potato hands",when you`re so stoned your fingers just ball up into loose fists and you just mash your hands along the neck of your guitar while you grin foolishly to yourself. Not a pretty sight. lol
When I was much younger I did a lot of opiates to help deal with the nervousness of being in a band for the first time. I was super worried playing with 3 dudes who all had 5-8 years experience with their craft. I had went from buying my first P bass at GC to joining a band in 4 months. I felt like it would be any second that they would realize that I sucked(although that never happened) Then we started playing shows 2 months after forming the band. I discovered that I had massive stage fright for the first couple of shows. So I played stoned on opiates to ease the fear. Knowing what I know now I wouldn`t have started using painkillers to deal with my swamp ass inducing social phobias. Although, I would say that while they kept me relaxed and happy, they didn`t mess with my short term memory or hand/eye coordination. Other than being super addictive they probably worked the best compared to weed/psychedelics.
The only time I play stoned now is about once a month on a combo of craft beers and pharmaceutical amphetamines(ADHD meds). I stay up late righting songs and messing about with my effects. Quote:

Could anyone on here recommend a delay by chance? I'm finding myself in the market, but without any clue what to look for. | TC Flashback delay pedal and the Boss DD-6. I use `em and have both mounted on my board. Both have some cool features. The Flashback has a ton of settings plus the "tone print" setting(settings made by artists for their sig sound) and it has a looper. I`d also recommend the Carbon Copy, although I don`t own one yet. Don`t forget that Line 6 gets a lot of love for their delay pedal, the DL4. It has 3 or 4 presets you can switch through on the fly and a looper to record stuff. The only down sides are the size of the effect and it`s oddball power source.

Personally, I thought it could cop a Ric vibe. But the biggest thing about the T-40 was all the other ones it could cop.
Also, the LOUDEST fvcking passive bass I've ever owned |

I really enjoyed the first few times I played on psychedelics. I don't even know how to describe it, I couldn't see the strings independently, but didn't have to. The instrument became such a natural extension of how i was expressing myself in the moment. However, I've been made aware that after 2-3 drinks or too much herb my playing can suffer, so i try to keep myself under control and wear earplugs, maybe have some coffee before a set. Actually, coffee & greens are one of my favorite combo's of all time.
Bedroom / quiet time rig:
This is a 15" out of my first cab (Earth acoustic 215 - tuck and roll) in a cab that a friend of mine threw together. I found the power amp in the trash, and only channel B works, but it is enough to run 2 speakers off of. It has definitely shown me to appreciate the benefits and simplicity of being able to run MS -> Power Amp.
