Steve Scipio of Cymande

I imagine few of you would have heard of Cymande, a 70s eclectic funk group. Fewer still would know their bassist, Steve Scipio. A self-taught player with great feel, he has one of the most unique tones I've ever heard. Sort of tinny to my ears. But I can't help but love it. I'd like to bring attention to this grossly under-appreciated bassist and group. I'm also wondering if anyone would know what bass he might have used or how his tone may have been achieved?

Here's a good example of his playing and tone:

FWIW I have been a fan of Cymande for a long time... but I don't know anything about Scipio's gear or methods.

It's good to hear other people have heard of Cymande. I have been a fan for years and agree that they are very under-appreciated. Great Band
