Sting plays at a 40th B-Day party!

Check this out. There's a very wealthy guy who owns a $6M oceanfront estate in Narragansett, RI. He works as a hedge fund manager in NY. Somehow he managed to get Sting to play at his 40th birthday party at his oceanfront home this past Saturday night! It was private party, so most of the details were not made public. The local paper said that it was connected to a charity event. The word got out on Friday and the beach was filled with people starting at 11 AM on Saturday. Even though this gentleman owns the beach, by law it is a public area below the mean high-tide line. There were also dozens of boats just offshore as well. At 4 PM Sting came out to do a soundcheck. He apologized to the fans on the beach "for drowning out the sound of the ocean." According to the paper when he came out later in the evening, he played an extended set of songs from his Police days as well as from his solo career. According to the newspaper, he wrapped up the show about ten minutes before the local noise ordinances went into effect. The newspaper ran a pic of him yesterday and he was playing his trusty old P. Very cool!

Took the words right out of my fingers.

Agreed! One thing I left out is the fact that Niles Rodgers produced the event. Again, there was a tie-in to a charity. The name escapes me (and I've thrown out the newspaper). I think it was a combination of a large check and a charity that Sting supports. When I first read the article, I thought now that's big money. Then I read further down on the same page about a guy in Newport, RI that bought a $10.5M oceanfront estate and is planning to tear it down to build something "more appropriate" for the setting. Then I thought, now that's BIG money. One thing's for sure, neither of these two guys are bass players.

Cheers,
Kevin
