My dad bought me a meter for Christmas, I took it out of the package once and poked it around in a circuit board, still dunno how the damn thing works.

Yes send your pickup to a "major" company and have it done by a professional. Not some bum on Craigslist or some dude that fixed a couple pickups on talkbass. And do some research on the reverse polarity. It will resemble a jazz bass in its quieter when both pickups are running. It's just an Idea but does not need to be done.

Ok. I'll have to take it to Toast to remove it for me as I don't own a solder gun. Who should I contact about sending the pickup to? I'm still holding out hope for having someone local do it. There are a couple of good shops in the area that I'm going to talk to.

It was discussed a while back, and I think Demon said that Al actually used a Mutron Phasor II on Dragonaught and not a Mutron filter.

Basically you just want to use the meter to check the resistance of the pickup. So you can open up the bass and connect the multimeter clips to each lead of the pickup and set the ohmeter to something like 20k.

I'm actually busy doing work today, so I'll read that thoroughly in a little while, but basically since I'm having my pickup rewound, it would be beneficial to reverse the polarity so there is no hum between the two pickups?

Don't do that. Seriously if you're gonna own a Ric go over to Rickresourceforums.com there are a couple of guys over there that do this all the time and know the specs for them. Just watch out over there most of the guys are a little up tight. But there is a wealth of knowledge over there.
