Effects vs no effects. I know most of you use em. However, I don't remeber seeing Dave Collins use any pedals at all. I think I have a pretty gnarly sound right now with my sansamp clone. Do any of you guys even use a DI? With all the effects, I would think it would all be mic'ed. Your opinion please.

Also, I may be finally starting up a band after being tied up in home projects the last few weeks. Wish me luck.

I'm an effects minimalist. I run my bluebeard fuzz, and oc-3 octave pedal, a digitech chorus pedal and my tuner and that's it. The bluebeard stays on 24/7, I'll use the octave when I'm playing something really heavy and my guitarist isn't using his POG, and I'll toss the chorus on once in awhile just for fun.

For me, my cabs add a lot to my sound so I'd rather not DI.

I'm with bird on this one. I just use my rat, bbe sonic maximizer(both always on), and a memory boy delay w/ the chorus on it. Might look into an octave for the real heavy parts, but haven't needed it so far. I don't use a DI on my board, but I'm thinking of it as the one on my head isn't THAT great.

I've got a LoopMaster A/B/Y... A goes direct to channel one and B goes to Mole -> Vox V8-30 and into channel 2. Been thinking about adding a BDDI for shows too, but the sound guys I've talked to wouldn't want to mic & DI and I think that's dumb.

Mic + DI always seemed the best way to capture bass, but most sound guys are lazy and want to do as little as possible (plug XLR cable into DI).

Luckily most of our shows only involve a PA for vocals and kick and I let my earcandys do the talking.

I'm trying to get into effects. I ran clean with my last band. Well, as clean as old Acoustics can be. I just joined a band that used a tube screamer on their EP so I'm gonna go that route for now but I plan to build something for myself (I got the DIY bug).

EDIT: Here is the band I just joined:

http://www.myspace.com/asthmacastle

We had one practice so far where we just watched Red Fang videos and listened to Primus. This'll be a good fit for me.

The music leans a little to the metal side but I think there are plenty of meaty riffs.

I DO love this band. I joined them by total chance alignment of the stars, it was wild. Met them as they were recording their demo a year ago the day their bassist quit, in the studio. I showed up & learned the tracks as they were playing, laid em down & I was in the band. Truly a highlight in my musical career. I love playing in this band. Thank you for the kind words.

I'll try to post my rig here soon. I'm working on a project with another bassist and a drummer starting this fall and I'll be using every amp I have and some pretty heavy distortion and fuzzy fuzz. It seems like I'll be playing some "lead" bass while the other bassist uses his board to make dubstep style wubs.

Effects, man. If you don't have Merzbow's bass tone, what are you doing trying to play stoner metal?

Seriously, though, it's personal preference.
I like Merzbow's bass tone, though.

I would like to see this, when you get pics. What configuration is the Cab O'DOOM?
