Soooo pretty quiet in here. I'll start, thanks to beebassdude I'll be reliving my past by owning a Ibanez destroyer again. It was my first bass when I switched from guitar many moons ago. I did a lot of wood shedding with that bass. It will be nice to take a trip back down memory lane. I also scored a nice maple jazz neck for my black bass. So things on the up and up. Still going to start to get out of some of my other gear........ Not a lot

Sounds cool, honestly with my headphones on I can't tell much difference between guitar and bass.

Which leads me to... I'd like to hear more clips of peoples bass tone in this thread. Preferably without a full band and all... If that's all you got, cool. With all the different gear but love for the Heavy I wonder how different folks tone compares. I've got two auditions up coming for different types of non-Heavy bands and I've been f'ing around in my garage for the last few days trying to tweak my tone. I'm proably gonna do a clip of the 'omie tone' tonight. Nothin serious. \m/

I'm still learning how to use the Magma but last night I dialed in a tone I wasn't a huge fan of by itself but thought it sounded incredible in the band mix. Its a weird concept to grasp when you don't really like the way your tone sounds by itself but love it with the band.

Here's a review of last night's show... it was a ton of fun, and we played pretty well considering we hadn't rehearsed on two weeks, but it was weird combo of bands. Us, two mostly improv nu jazz bands, and a post-rock band. The club was promoting a night of instrumental music.

Egg Silo

Ever since I first saw the painting I thought that would make a cool band name. Feel free to use it.

I def wanna hear clips of that beast(the magma).

I've been setting up my amp with aggresive mids dialed in and then using a graphic eq for a midscoop on quieter/solo bass parts for sweeting up my tone. Haven't played with a distorted downtuned guitar in a bit, so I don't know if it will work.

Aside from being a little hung over from seeing Floggy Molly the night before, my jam yesterday went pretty well. I definitely screwed up way more than I should have, but it wasn't a total trainwreck. While I wish I would have played better, I wasn't under-prepared or anything. I just screwed up a few times on a tricky song (although only once on the tricky part... the other times were just brain farts of not completely digesting the song).

They're playing with another guy next weekend and will let me know after that. Either way, they were cool guys and I think we'll keep in touch.

I had a work party with an open bar immediately afterwards, so I'm fighting off yet another hangover.

Yeah, that's why I put such a long caveat before it, it doesn't really showcase the bass, since it was just a quick and dirty demo. I think I might record a proper version with the arrangement and tonesI I had in mind.

I don't really aim for a specific tone, and i have so many dirt and fuzz pedals that it always changes, plus different amps and basses. having said that i do find that no matter what combination of gear I use I tend to lean toward a mid heavy tone that sits under the mix instead of cutting through for the majority of our songs. Its a tone that sound clean in the mix but once the guitar drops out you can hear the little bit of fur that makes you go "ahhh that's what the bass sounds like."

i dont really have any solo recording but this is the closest i can get, its fairly mellow and the guitar and drums are quiet so you can really hear the bass. This is taken from one of our new tracks, but its pretty raw, there has not been any processing added to it yet.

yup, well technically Lakland Bob Glaub > Oxfuzz Bass > YBA-3 > AV210 > Heil PR-40. there is a little bit of clean tone from a JDI blended in, but not much.
