Also, whats the consensus on Carvin power amps... I may be able to snag a slightly older slightly cheaper one... | The IPR 1600 and 3000 are bridgeable. You have to build a special cable though. I bridged my IPR and never had a problem with it. I dont remember the actual wiring for it off the top of my head, but I can look it up if you are interested.
IPR 1600
- 1000W RMS x 1 at 2 ohms
- 600W RMS x 1 at 4 ohms
- 320W RMS x 1 at 8 ohms
- 900W RMS x 2 at 2 ohms
- 530W RMS x 2 at 4 ohms
- 300W RMS x 2 at 8 ohms
- 1600 RMS Bridged at 4 ohms
- 1060 RMS Bridged at 8 ohms

The Speakon connectors open up and then it's just a matter of unscrewing one terminal and switching it to another. Should be no soldering required. I did it in about 2 minutes once I figured out what I needed to do. |

There's one on ebay for $160. THe buy it now is $350, but there doesn't appear to be a reserve. Might be able to snag it for under 200.
Not sure if that was the model you were referring to, though...

To avoid confusion they did not include that information, they didnt want people using the bigger amps to fry them. The IPR line was structured to be the "budget" line. No bells and whistles. Virtually the same amp is packaged in the Crest ProLite series with the bridging option on the back.

I need to tackle working on my old as dirt 15" emc bass combo amp soon. I tried to sell it this week on craigslist but no one was interested. It's way too heavy to ship because it's solid wood. What's stopping me from starting the project? The previous owner of the combo blew the speaker out and decided to remove the speaker AND (my favorite part) cut the speaker wires going to the amp. I no longer have contact with the original owner.
So now I have to figure out how to open up an amp from the 70s with little documentation, put in new speaker cables, and find a proper speaker to put inside. I don't even know what ohms I need. It has a speaker out on the back which I'm going to check tonight but I think it is labeled 8 ohm. I think my brain might hemorrhage.

Attach a small sound activated sensor to the inside and randomize the colors that light up. I'm imaging this psychadelic crazy lightshow at my feet and it makes me smile.
Edit: You know, heavy electronics has a pedal called "red eyes"... just saying.
Edit#2: How about randomly shooting lazer pointers into the crowd from the pedal? LOL j/k... maybe...

I use it all over the Roadburn live stuff, more in the sustained depth/textural way that I talk about. Also any huge sounding sub-drops (between songs is when they are most noticiable) are from me using the Moog delay with an expression pedal. |
