No soldering requires.

| | | I'm picking up a bass tomorrow... Some no name vintage lookin thang, got dark woods and ****... $50 local pickup... So stoked. I've been trying hard to get my old beater to work again, some old Aria that I ripped the frets out of in 12th grade, but to no avail. I've been reading this thread and wanting to play bass again so bad, I'm pretty excited. Figured I'd share here because everyone else in the other threads would probably not care since I'm not buying a Kevin Smith or some Fender that costs moe than I make in a month... You guys are inspiring, so many good bands. Hopefully I'll be jamming and sharing some stuff soon, I'm trying to find some guys around here who might want to do some ambient metal, like Cult of Luna or Isis... Even ambient black metal like WITTR or Deafheaven...
I've been listening to Woods of Ypres today, does anyone here like them? To me they sound like a darker, heavier version of Baroness's new album that I didn't like at all. It's a bit poppy, but good. http://m.youtube.com/index?&desktop_uri=%2F
Edit: and holy ****! Just got an email linking me to Light Bearer's new album!! These guys are sick! Atheist Post Metal from the UK, they had a split with Northless recently. http://lightbearer.bandcamp.com/album/silver-tongue-2

Looking for another bass.... | My girlfriend's father, long time country and gospel player, said the T40 was the best and most versatile bass he ever played. I have a Gibson Victory Artist and the tone is to die for but it weighs so much I have it on ebay now to get to try and get a lighter Gibson. Since T40 are so cheap I have kicked the idea of getting a woodworking to shave or hollow our the back of one somehow for me. But maybe that will change the tone anyway. Guess I am trying to say my opinion is stay away from lead sled basses if you can, there are lighter basses with plenty of tone.

They are heavy, but I didn't really think it was that bad. If you can find one in the $200-$300 range, snatch it up! |

Yes, it's heavy. I saw a mod where someone took a router to everything under the pickguard and shed over 2lbs. The original designer of the T-40's, Chip Taylor swears the weight was Peaveys choice, not his...he says it has no negative affects on the tone.
To me, the T-40 is a cross between a Ric and a Gibson Ripper...which is glorious |

It was the natural finish and in nice shape. Should of bought it and routed it. I love the made in America Peavey stuff, my only 6 sting at the moment is a Peavey Reactor tuxedo color, telecaster style, and that thing is so sweet.
