True that. When you have 3 fuzzed out guitars going off at once, sometimes a clean full range sound is the way to go, other times I like to add to the wall of fuzz.

+1

That is what I strive for with my rig. Really loud and clean or loud and dirty depending on the situation.

Looking for why notes sound good together (maybe certain patterns and such), improve my improv repitoire, and have a better understanding of of how to chain notes together. Sam does this really well, but I'm not trying to bite his riffs.

3015's just jacked up huge in price in the last couple years due to the Chinese neodymium issue, right? I think in the end I'd like to put a pair in my Sunn because since I've gotten the cheapies I've heard a couple other people comment that 3015's sound good in old Sunn 215 cabs. Maybe I'll wait until we get a congress who shoots down all this free trade nonsense

The MIM P bass discussion got me thinking.I had this listed on the classifieds before and ebay last week. I was goin to take the neck off and body and list both separate on ebay. Before I part this out on ebay, I wanted to see if any Doomers can use a spare Pbass style bass. This is the one I set up to go back and forth from BEAD to EADG. $100 plus the cheapest way we can ship it to you. Yamaha BB300 reverse p. Trying to limit myself to owning 5 basses. Didn't think that would be hard till I went nuts with income tax money lol.

Yeah I only have a 7 space rack lol or it would be a keeper. The neck is glorious. One of the nicest feeling necks I ever played.

If you are going to do this, You'll be better to start the cab from scratch. My Yamaha sounded like it was going to blow apart from the force of the air coming out of it. Starting a new cab will give you the chance to use a lighter weight wood too. Man, I have so many ideas, I wish I was building a cab right now... But, it's the weird folded horn of the 215B that makes it so damn deep. Wish I had someway to draw it out and put it on here to show you what I mean. Oh well. Atleast there are other people out there that have tried this and can atest to the power. Seriously, it's like some lord of the rings ****. Once you try that cab combo, all others will fall short on boom (because you know how boomy it is with the 160 watts, imagine 900). And not many will touch the power it puts out (because of the 3015s)

I proclaim that the 3015 speaker just kills in any well designed cab. The Sunn design proves it. (not taking a shot at you greenboy guys, simmer)

And yeah Toast, I got in when they were still only $150 new. So it felt good to sell them for a little more than what I paid new, based on the rarity of the neodynium. I needed the cash more.

If I was so inclined to build my own cab around the 3015 or 15PR400 I would start with the TL-606 plans, convert them to 1/2", add some bracing, then tune it to 50-55hz... sayin'

(I also may or may not have these plans drawn up in sketch up...)

Holy crap sam, you`re listing all the cd`s I had growing up thru the 90`s!

Our Lady Peace~awesome band that never seemed to reach all that far into america but should have.

Kind of like The Tea Party. Really good rock,alt/rock 3 piece that should of been bigger in the US.

Well if I was going to start from very scratch, then I'd be looking at the Dually and the JohnK 2x15, as well as some other makes, on top of the Sunn. But right now my scope is simply in pimping what I already got (the last thing I need is more cabs taking up space!)

I guess since I got into the stoner/doom thing, my rig inspiration holy grail has been Dixie's janky rig of random 15"s. First time I heard that setup live, it was just such a weird thick saturated bass sound that I'd never heard before. Sort of showed me you can make anything sound badass if you have enough watts and speaker space.

Mondays suck, hand holding the sales manager on setting up his new windows 8 laptop. Shoot me. Gonna need some heavy heavy to get over this. Maybe some Amon Amarth?

I would just get some mid level speakers to throw into the Sunn. You'll still be happy with it.

If you are going to spend the big money on the 3015, building the cab is the best route.

If you are going to invest in the 3015's they behoove you to build a killer light cab around them.
