haha. Indeed.
It's not even the list, it's the reaction to the list.

Of course most bass players are going to be like what the french toast. But from a popular music standpoint it's not a terrible list.

Found this thread about 3 weeks ago and have been reading up since pt 43. I still don't know what's going on....lol

A little intro: Am primarily a guitar player, but for every band I've ever played in I take a bassist roll. With my current band, Mariana, I decided to take full ownership of being a badass bassist. We are a pseudo proggy, pseudo stoner rock group - Basically we have fits of Isis, Russian Circles, Hum, Pelican etc thrown all about.

Current rig is:

Fender Blacktop P Bass --> Volume pedal -> Boss TU-2 -> Fulltone OCD -> Ibanez DE-7 short delay -> Ibanez DE-7 long delay -> Tech 21 VT Bass Deluxe DI -> Ampeg SVT 3 Pro -> 2 Ampeg 410HLF's.

Been trying to friend a couple people's bands on here. We are in Idaho, but plan on making weekend trips to WA, OR, NV, UT, MT, etc....

Found this site while searching for a replacement for the SVT3, as well as the desire to push more air than my 410's can handle. Ideally i'd like to replace 1 of the cabs with a 2x15. haha, learning more about Greenboys offerings.

This looks like a great place to do some discovering!

Lol just read through the thread. Pretty funny. If you wanted to stir the pot you could ask at what age IS it appropriate to be in that atmosphere

those 410 HLFs are probably not doing you any favours. Those cabs are very bass heavy with not much mids. A 3 Pro and a Dually 215 will handle any gig. lots of knowledgeable people in this thread, avoid the rest of TB and don't get sucked in.

First thing to understand is what is your budget?

Sounds like a riff I would write, then play while the guitarists stare at me blankly.

You just described my sessions with my guitarist. Apparently everything I write is in a "funky" timing his brain just doesn't do...lol

the HLF's aint helping me out, eh? Suxor. Isn't bass heavy a good thing??

I've read about the dually, but haven't got a grasp on who actually builds/manufactures them. I get that it's a Greenboy design....

My budget is pretty flexible, but I'm not spending $2k on cab. Well, maybe I might..... I can get rid of the 410HLF's pretty easy to help pay for a replacement.

The original plan was to replace one of the 4x10 and add something like the dually. Pretty sure my amp handles decent 2ohm loads.

You're saying I need to actually look at my amp??????????

edit: Wow, just checked online. How the **** did I not notice this? Guess, I'm selling the Ampeg...I do have a good hookup on an SVT5 Pro, those are pretty powerful and hit 2ohms.

Now that that changes some things...I've got a VT Bass deluxe I use for recording DI. Haven't tried it as at all; Anyone running one into a big ass power amp?

Heyman welcome. I have a 410hlf and love it... They're super heavy.. I sometimes do run it with a 215 though... It's a pretty good balance.

I can agree with you there, the ability to run at 2 ohms is a must!

I dont use a VT bass deluxe, but I use a preamp into a power amp. I use an old Acoustic 833, 200w at 2ohms, which is plenty with 4x15s and 2x18s.

There's others in this thread that do the pre/power amp setup.

Don't ditch the ampeg amp. Ditch those hlf's. Lows are not a bad thing, but no mids is. A Dually with your svt 3-pro would be pretty killer. That cab loaded with eminence 3015's will kick an Ampeg 810e to the curb with style and grace. Then it will get nasty and impregnated everyone at your gig.

Also running that Di you can drive a pa amp. I like peavey IPR's and crest proLites.
