Man, my wife is going to be gone for a whole 2 weeks on Monday. She's going to visit the family down in FL and leaving me with her sister and her newborn. I see a productive week of Netflix, internet pr0n, and bass rocking ahead of me. Need to make some plans of my own I think....

I've moved beyond tubes or solid state and on to propane powered bass amps. They don't really amplify sound, so much as just shoot fire while I swing my bass over my head and scream.

Some cool upcoming Pittsburgh stuff:
Two shows on 2/16
Carousel/Del Rios/Von Dane at Gooski's (Del Rios CD release)
Midnight Ghost Train/Prish/The Carny Stomp at 31st St Pub

I'm going to the Carousel show, but both of those should be good.

And Winter's Wake is next weekend. I'm just going on Friday to see Vektor and Black Anvil, but there are some cool bands on Saturday like Dream Death (their bassist posts her occasionally, they're old time yinzers), Evoken, Gates of Slumber, Vulture, etc.

I like the sound of Winter's Wake... I'll look it up some more when I get home. My schedule is like wide open now compared to a few weeks ago so I'm trying to get out there when I can. Nice plug for the sv show too =p. I'll try to make it out there, the wife isn't ready for more of that dually yet

I wish there was a national high speed rail system or something, so I could burn up a few vacation days here and there catching some of the shows you guys in other parts of the country play.

I'm 6'2 and it looks nothing but awesome! But I look more like a guitar player than a bass player when I wear it.

I love my SG.

my friend silkscreened my pickguard a couple of years ago. still think it looks pretty cool. note the Adrian Smith-inspired sticker placement and the Darth Vader-knob!

Me too. I live so close to Richmond and there is a great music scene there but the trick is unless the name screams Doom or Stoner, not sure how to find them. I need to find listing for bands or find which clubs support the doom scene I suppose.

I get 2 weeks vacation every year. I usually spend one week with my wife for our anniversary, the rest I usually just burn up a day at a time throughout the year or just lose it. I used to spend that other week on mini tours (occasionally both weeks, when my wife was being very selfless). One of my goals when we get Warp Rig gig ready is to make some road trips and play with some S/D thread bands. Colorado would definitely be one of the easier drives.

Going to see Flogging Molly on Sunday. Not doom but a nice show to go to for date night.

We just got confirmed to play at Houston roller derby in May. Two 45 min sets in the venue that mastodon plays(3000 capacity) and averages a crowd of 1400. Super excited and kinda freaking out. We're gonna have to write some new songs.

If anyone wants to come to Houston and play for free, they're still looking for bands...

It's kind of like that for the SF bay area scene with me. It's nearby and I know there are bands there, but I don't have any connections with any of them. Hopefully we will make some once we're ready to get out there though. That's part of the fun of being in a band, making band friends and expanding your social circle.

VEGA is in this same situation in Milwaukee. I actually want to start a FB group or something for the local heavy scene to connect easier. Call it MKheavE.

Sounds like the ideal use for social networking. At the very least, the literal definition of it.
