That's part of the fun of being in a band, making band friends and expanding your social circle. | There is a cool guy who is a bassist in a Stoner band that works at GC in Richmond and I believe a TBer. I need to chew his ear up more the next time I see him at the store for what bands to check out and what clubs to haunt. After talking gear, mostly pedals, and that I play both guitar and bass he hinted I should come over that way and meet more people in the Richmond scene and get some playing time in. Which I would like to do but It's a good hour and 20 minute commute and the GF growls that is too far to go to practice. Her Dad has played country and gospel forever and she knows how often he is out of the house for the band. So a closer playing scene would be better but it is plenty close for catching shows.

I used to get lots of offers to come try out for bands, jam to start new bands and that sort of thing over an hour away. I went a few times and the reality of the commute dissuaded me pretty quick. Still, if you can't go jam with those people, you can hang out and catch their shows. Gives you some connections to draw on for trading shows and that sort of thing, when you do get a band going in your own area. Sometimes you get word of mouth that people who are closer are looking for something too.

In totally non-stoner news, the ZZ Top tribute I did a couple of years ago is playing again in a couple of weeks. Rehearsals start this weekend. That was so much fun I can't wait to do it again.

Plus I am would like to play with people trying to make music that satisfies them and play for playings sake not cash. I have a job, I don't want a second job. And I am a bit shy to play since it is years since I was in a band. I play acoustic pr do the root noot bass thing with a bunch of hippies doing covers of Neil young, The Dead. Which is still fun but been a while since really amplifed and rocked out with people. So sam like minded jam buddies would be more the thing I need to find that jump right in a band I think.

Throwback bands that actually dress like they're in the 70's are pretty cheesy...but these guys are definitely pulling off the sound.

Yes you can't pan the bass if you have a lot of sub 50Hz content but for a vintage, mid focused tone it works great. |
