Since I don't have a band, or regular jam situation I've been doing home lessons. I was surprised how quickly reading came back to me and how quickly I memorize things. Definitely been beneficial, however my wife just got a full time job at a local college so I can take free classes. Definitely gonna sign up for some music... They used to offer a looping course....

I think I have the same book and CDs. I need to give it more serious attention. I am a drummer first, so wrapping my head around scales and reading music does not come naturally. I know what sounds good only by ear, and I think I have a good solid footing on my technique, but I think I would benefit greatly from getting some lessons, or at least trying to grind through that book. My problem is that when I get to a part that is unclear, I hit the roadblock. I don't want to form bad habits and learn the wrong way. I just need to get some lessons set up and go from there.

Only thing I don't like about it, is it uses closed hand technique until like halfway through the second book, and I don't think closed hand technique on electric bass has been taught for like 40 years... then right before it starts teaching scales it's like oh hey by the way you have four fretting fingers not three! |

Its the way I learned, and for the most part still play. Does it limit some things? abso-fvckin-lutely. Just an example of being "taught the wrong way to do things right."

Then in the second book they tell you to use open hand technique. Makes no sense. Really dumb. I just ended up crossing out the finger patterns they recommend and figuring out the best way on my own. More beneficial from a learning experience that way anyways. |

It looks exactly like the Teac table I've had since I was 15. Not an audiophile piece by any means but it's still kicking after years of abuse. The matching receiver and cd player died long ago. |
