Most of the work I do for my friends has been free, but since I've been getting somewhat regular work building/modifying/repairing basses, guitars, and pedals for people which has been pretty cool, I gotta get better at pricing this stuff out.
Can anyone chime in to what i've noted here and let me know how this sounds for price on a recent job I did. It was a lot of work, and I've been holding on to this guitar for over two months partly because the guy was on tour.
1978 Gibson Marauder guitar

WORK DONE: many hours + extensive research for rare guitar

- Cut + Route New Pickguard (material provided by customer), Cut out neck pickup, cut out bridge humbucker, pot holes, screw holes, countersink, bevel, etc…[$50]
- Install bridge humbucker
- (3) A500K Potentiometers x $3 = [$9] + (1) 0.047µF Capacitor [$1.50]
- 3-way toggle switch + 2 volume + 1 Tone + 1 input jack + 1 input jack plate on body wiring diagram [$14.99 + $1.50 + $7.99 + tax $1.46 = $26]
- Remove bridge bushing and reconnect groundwire + several hours for all electrical work + wire = [$30]
- Install new bridge (provided by customer)
- Guitar set-up [$25] (tuning CGCFAD) Ernie Ball 12-56 strings [$5]

let me know if i'm being too nice or if i'm ripping him off or forgetting something.
Anything you can share based on your experiences would be appreciated and helpful. |

If I were you I'd ask some other techs what their hourly charge is and set one for yourself. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
