Kind of happy with one six string, really bonding with it. | I probably sold as many guitars last year as basses I bought. My main stable for years was the Gibson LP Custom and my 80 SG Standard, a MIM Tele, Gibson Sonex and an Epi Goldtop LP with P90s. I sold the Epi, bought a Reverend Volcano. Sold the Tele, got the strat. Sold the Sonex, sold the Reverend, haven't touched the SG in years and just used the Strat and LP Custom for a long time. The LP even less than the SG until the last few months, that's why it was such an easy trade to ok. I listed it a couple times, but wasn't happy with any offers. I won't ever sell the SG, I poured years and tons of man hours into fixing it up, because I bought it super cheap and it was wreck (everything except the body itself, the wood was perfect, no cracks or repairs ever and perfect grain matching). I've let it kind of fall apart after it being my main axe when I took a break from bass for a few years. It needs some love and I never really spruced up the Strat, which I also bought really cheap and has needed work but sounded mostly fine since I got it. I know I'm forgetting at least 4 guitars from that previous list too.

Got myself a Pharaoh and am very happy with it. Super flexible, can go from an ODish boost to a really nice fuzzy growl. The silicon mode can produce some pretty high gain sounds, I prefer the Germanium mode (NATÜRLICH! )
I still wait to play it over the big rig with the band, can't wait for that. |

Doesn't diminish the music on its own merit any, but the context in which they're presented in is all about underground metal youth culture and not throwback 60s psychedelic garage rock. Even if you're judging by that standard, they're pretty much a riff on Arthur Brown and The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown came out in 1968 and had a hell of a lot more guts and risk to it, with all the pretentious artsy presentation. I mean, dressing up as a satanic pope and singing about praising his dark majesty would be album burning worthy shock in the late 60s, but it's just a quaint ironically detached shtick in the current context. That band that's been posted recently, The Earls of Mars are off the same tip...but they're wearing t-shirts, using cheap DIY album art, flinging their hair around and going nuts when they play shows. They don't have a stage crew with costumes, makeup schemes and lighting cues. All I'm saying is none of it is metal in the first place, other than marketing to metal fans, and other bands are doing the same sound more genuinely, without all the cheeky hype and getting way less notice.
/rant...I don't wanna come off like I'm lecturing. People should play and listen to whatever they want, just sharing observations.

It is good that it's getting me off my butt to fix up my SG though. It's WAY overdue, I meant to do it months ago when I had spare cash for parts.

/rant...I don't wanna come off like I'm lecturing. People should play and listen to whatever they want, just sharing observations. | I agree somewhat. I would say Grateful Dead is the end all be all psych band of the '60s. I can't say Ghost is close to this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=82mvCWNTpYk
Prog maybe? I know they are pretty closely related. Pink Floyd being the biggest Psych/Prog band I can think of at this moment.
We can defintely agree on them being super trendy though. One thing I heard about the identities thing, is they didn't want to be judged on their prior bands' music so that's why the conceal the identities. Although, I think it's safe to say that the lead singer is the same guy from Subvision: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NExD7pW7nUc
As for metal, some of the breakdowns are reminiscent of some metalcore, especially the break on Con Clavi Con Dio. Maybe they aren't fully "metal", but they teeter on several different genres. And they are pretty slick for a band that is going for the older style sound. The interviews they have reference influences as being all over the map, Abba, Blue Oyster Cult, King Diamond, and some others. They even mention Metallica as being an influence in response to James Hetfield wearing a Ghost shirt. They definitely go for the, takes money to make money, approach. And I know, it's gimmicky. I'm a sucker for the overtly satanic stuff.

Plus it's very moddable and configurable, and the Reaper plugin libraries are rather awesome...
Been trying to find some local guys to riff out some sludgey drone doom with but there doesn't seem to be anyone aside from this one band that aren't anywhere remotely close to what I want to play, plus they're all smackies/ice heads. Irritating the sheet out of me. We've got a really strong metal scene, and there's a lot of indie/alt/hipster bands but no stoner/doom/sludge/drone/doom/doom/stoner/doom bands or even guys that want to play it. Ugh...
