I know that back when, most of what We were playing (a bit different stuff though)was tuned 1 and 1/2 steps down from standard "E" (C#). From what I recall the guage sized set I ran back then was a 110-055 on a four string, and I seem to recall it working pretty well. FWIW- I am gonna set-up one of My basses to get started on woodshed'n on some stuff to get Me all warm and cozy before I jump in with trying to get a project going. | For EADG and drop D tunings I use standard gauge strings. When I started to tune down to CGCF my string tension just blew. Way too floppy. So I`ve been using DDT stings and they`ve been pretty good,110-55. I feel like I might want to try 115 gauge strings and see how I like those.
I like your stable of Jags. I`ve got a sunburst Fender Jag from the first run a few years back. Really nice bass.

No nut mod needed. They really are great strings. But with my chambered Carvin, I needed strings that can go through the body. Last time I checked Circle K, the taper was not designed for string through. For my carvin (drop D), I am rolling with the .105 set of DR Lorider nickels. My Carvin was getting me the Jazz bass vibe, and the Loriders were the proverbial cherry. I have never been happier with my tone. I just need modeling effects now and I'll be set.
Then, I can start chipping away at my GAS list. Matching 2-15's, one of those badass pedal boards (blackbird looks mega sweet), maybe a custom something from Mr Dunwich... who knows.

I like your stable of Jags. I`ve got a sunburst Fender Jag from the first run a few years back. Really nice bass. | I think I recall when doing C# years ago, that with a standard 105-45 set, things would get really floppy. I'll check around and see what all off the shelf is available from My local mom'n'pop shope that'll get close. I may wind up butchering a cheepish light 5 set to get Me started if I have to.
Love Me som Jags. I have been seriously GAS'n to put together a burst Jag for some time, but other projects have trumped it in importance. The last time I checked around ebay, the stratosphere was asking around $280 shipped for one of the bodies (which, IMO seems a bit steep). |

He say's the balanced sets are the bomb, but I've yet to try'em (I keep ordering the DR's cause I knew that I liked'em).
Joe: What kind of 215 cabs do You have in mind. I had one (recently sold to My Augusta friend) loaded with the Faital Pro 15PR400s that was really nice. I was running it with My old SVT classic, and it was pure awesome. If I wouldn't have sold My SVT and done the fearful thingy, I would still have it. I loved it and wasn't in any hurry to sell it, but it was sitting idle at My house, and He had been GAS'n for the cab since Our bands played a show together a while back. So I figured why the hell not, a buddy wants the cab, I want some cash, We're both happy. |

| | Registered User | | Join Date: Jun 2012 Location: Madison, Wi | | | I've used .125s and .130s for tuning to B on a 4 string. Tension was actually pretty high. Just switched to a 5'er and the stock strings on it even smaller than either of those, probably like .120. I'm thinking about changing them out but I'm tired of having super bright zingy new strings. I don't care for flats, I need dirty, dull roundwounds. Maybe I'll grab a set off an old bass. Or stop washing my hands. Decisions... |
