...Speaking of sweet treats of yesterday.. Does anyone remember Sweet Sixteen donuts made by Merita??
Well, Hostess bought them out some time ago, and found a way to make them suck. I could eat an unhealthy amount of these little chocolate waxy donuts. They had the same style bag from the mid 70's though to like 2000 or so. Then Hostess bought them and changed the chocolate and it wasn't the same. I can't say that I will miss a lot of Hostess products, but someone will step up and make bad crap for us to shove in our pieholes soon after Hostess turns off the lights.

Better Hostess than Little Debbie I say. I would have problems.
Question...
So I have been kicking around the idea of a possibly putting together a passive Fender P/J. I have seen the occasional Hot Rod Precision come and go, but many go for almost new prices. I got the idea surfing ebay and seeing Fender bass bodies. There are a few options that I see that might be interesting. I am not really interested in an active P/J. However, I could either buy, lets say, an empty active body and just use passive electronics, or find a good deal on a MIM active deluxe or American deluxe and ditching / not installing the pre-amp or active pickups. From what I can tell, it looks like you could just use a regular pick guard and go with the three controls with the bottom mounted input jack instead of the "four" controls that go with the deluxe layout. Then I would be free to match up a neck and whatever P/Ups I wanted to marry up to the body to make it work. If I went with an American deluxe body, I suppose I would have to go with a matching neck due to the couture and 5 screw pattern.
So:
Anyone here ever bought a body or neck from ebay or anywhere else to throw something like this together?
Do you think that it would make sense to use a new body to use with the passive electronics? I don't see much in the way of "cost savings" but I suppose this is not main point
I need to to some research and dig up all the old P/J threads. There seems to be a lot of debate as to the validity of a passive P/J configuration. I know it has some hurdles, mainly finding a good balance between a good P and J pickup. It just seems like a cool mix of best of both worlds and a unique tone unto itself.

The white P, jazz bass, and black P/J are all home builds or reworked from extinction. It's fun to build a bass like you want but sometimes its just cheaper to buy the whole thing and mod it. You run into a a good chunk of issues if you try to piece together from scratch that you will either have to live with or scrap the project. |

There are probably too many to list but these are the ones i can think of off the top of my head.

Yeah the EHX bass big muff isn't the best either. I have it and when I got an MXR bass fuzz deluxe my BBM use kind of fell by the wayside. So I thought I was set with the MXR but then I started poking around here and looked at some supercollider clips just out of curiosity since it's mentioned alot...It gave me serious GAS so now I have a supercollider ordered .
When that shows up I'll have a B3k, The EHX BBM, an EHX English Muff'n, The MXR, A Rat Tail and finally the Supercollider.
Hopefully that will end my Dirt quest...if not I may have a problem |

I have the BBM,it was my 1st fuzz pedal and while it sounded great alone it vanished when playing with friends. There are better options out there. Quote:
