I'd be astonished if they went down to combos from the full stacks I saw them using last time. I'm going to see them play with Skeletonwitch next weekend, so I'll have to keep my eyes out.
I forgot to mention the biggest thing about the Dethklok show. There was no backline all night. Everyone went direct. Aside from keeping things moving between acts, I have to say I'm not a fan. Maybe it was just because the FOH sound was lousy, but the mix was really subpar. I could barely hear any of the lead guitars. Gene Hoglan sounded incredible though. I could listen to that guy drum solo for hours. Not very often you see a merch table setup with an individual dude's shirt in addition to all the other bands. |

The bass player definitely did not have a huge 8X10 or anything like that.
They seem to be the band that Relapse is really pushing these days so I think they hired a really good sound guy. I was standing in the back next to the front of house desk which was raised up. Black Tusk had their own sound guy and he never left the desk. This is probably why the bass was really boomy for them (there was a lot of bass build up near the back but that also means pockets where the bass is nulled). Red Fang's sound guy kept coming down and listening on the floor and going back up and making changes. Every time he made a change I could tell the sound was improving. I imagine this guy must have convinced them to lower the stage volume and let him handle it. They had so much clarity, and I could hear every syllable of the vocals.
The only downside was it made them sound a lot less heavy, but I don't know if that was a bad thing. In truth, I kind of think of Red Fang as a rock band that sort of has hard rock or metal sound, and they almost sound a bit better a little cleaner.
On the doom thread I know this is sacrilege but for them it worked. |

Only question for me is when are you going to be over here playing this in Philly? |

I get a sort of happy and luminous vibe in Arcane Grooves, speciallyfrom the clean vocals. |

Calling it Blood Eagle for now. This is as dirty as the El Oso gets with my rig. (not turning up the gain in the amp.) I turned up the level on the back mics to bring the drums more in the mix. Still, just a scratch. Laterz.
I'm going to clean up the end a bit... http://soundcloud.com/joevictim/blood-eagle

Any advice when making patch leads?
Reckon speaker wire is alright in the switch pedal? It's a latching footswitch, no signal is going through so I could cheap out a bit right?

Funny enough, when we played with The Atlas Moth, they basically had the same thing, except it was like the $500 version one with a tripod they stuck in the back of the room and it was cool as hell. |
