Let's talk doom rigs, rigs of doom, stoning rigs, and rigs of stoning. Let's talk all that is heavy and bash all that is light. Bottom line, let's rock... And listen to each other's music and friend each other's bands and play shows and drink spirits. |

| | | im from argentina, new in the forum.
i play in a stoner / doom band.
Here in Arg is very difficult to find good equipment, like vintage tube amps, and muffs . also is very expensive !.
I'd like to know what set up (hardware) you use to play... just to keep this thread alive
..sorry for my english, i know is not very good |

I'm currently running an Ampeg Svt-3 Pro through an EarCandy BassBomb 212 cab. The sound is loud, epic, and LOUD. |

My set up then:
-Ibanez ATK
-Kustom200 -> ampeg 2x15
-Sunn Colliseum -> acoustic 6x10
-Boss ODB-3, Russian Muff, Phase90, Boss DD-3, Boss BF-2
simple. effective. loud.
The doom mantra.

| | needs more fuzz | | Join Date: Sep 2008 Location: Dartmouth, Nova Scotia | | | I'm not in a doom band, but I would like to be. I would more than likely use my Peavey T-40, unless the tuning was low. I have my Ampeg SVT-CL and an SVT-VR (that needs to be fixed), and an Ampeg 810. I have a Catalinbread SFT and have matched the tone heard in the YouTube video.
If I ever get my SVT-VR fixed, I would run both of these into several cabinets. Bergantino NV610/215, maybe? I know a guy who has a slight hook-up with Emperor cabinets, so I may take that route some day. I'd probably go with a 610/215 combo as well... but if I want to be absolutely absurd, I'll throw in an 18 or two...
The problem with the VR is probably the circuitry, but the enclosure is pretty f****d, too. I could see if Emperor would take the parts of the VR and build it into a new head enclosure to match the cabinets. I've seen it done with old Sunn amps... and it would look sweet as hell.

Currently have it set up where it's bass -> tuner -> y-cable -> half of the Y goes clean into channel 1, and the other half runs through the DS-1 -> crybaby into channel 2. The two channels are both at about 10 o'clock.
I just got the crybaby and the DS-1 a couple weeks ago and I suck at using the wah so I don't really touch it much. I like the DS-1 more than any other disto/fuzz I've had mostly because it retains the most clarity/attack & doesn't turn to mud when I play faster. |

They should totally be able to hook you up with this.

| | | | Used to play drums in a doom-ish band with neurosis as a primary influence. I'm new to bass but I've been jamming with a drummer and once I get myself a "rig o doom" I want to start something. Thinking about sticking with just bass and drums. Anyone ever try this? |

i play in a psychedelic doom/sludge/whatever-you-want-to-call-it duo called Dokazaado.
I play a couple of different P basses with 8% overwound Fralin pickups into 180-watt Electric power unit and an Electric 8x10. I also have a Fender Bassman 300 pro that I use sometimes. I think next I'll be getting another 8x10 for just stupid volume possibilities.
pedal-wise I use a few different fuzzes - Zvex Mastotron, Mountainking Megalith, sometimes a Earthbound Supercollider, also a Chunk Systems Brown Dog that's in the effects loop of the 3 Leaf Groove Regulator. in my chain I also have a Dunlop bass wah, an MXR Micro Amp, and an MXR Bass Octave Deluxe. I also have a FEA dual band compressor that I use sometimes to split my signal. right now when I do that I send the highs to a 50-watt Laney and an old Peavey 4x12. I need to take a photo.
so what's good on the doom front, dudes?
just got the Bongripper album, that's pretty tasty.
and who's going to any of the Sleep reunion shows?
me! that's who! |

I actually play drums, too, but I'm the reverse of you.
I've played bass for 20 years, but drums just a little more than a year.
I'm working on putting something together with an old friend.
as I just mentioned, I play in a bass and drum duo.
for the most well known example of this, go check out Om. |

Currently using a rickenbacker 4001 and a jay turser p/j bass into a peavey nitrobass and ampeg 1x15. with a big muff and a wah |

pretty damn DOOM.
here's the whole room, which is actually my living room.
wifey is super cool and doesn't mind that we practice in here.
great sound - 1.5 stories, peaked ceiling - I've never had a practice space that sounded better.
those are my drums, too. =-D |

but yeah, often we'll play with the only light coming from the tv. The Forbidden Zone is my favorite for that purpose. |
