I don't think so. I don't use pedals most of the time. Occasionally in my black metal band I'll use my distortion, wah, and reverb pedal, but that's very rarely. In my doom band, the only pedal I've been using is a tuner.

JoeVictim I'd recommend fuzz/od and maybe wah/envelope or phaser to drop an acid in the mix. I'm kinda minimalist
Chorus is an effect for 80-s pop music IMO, especially on bass.
Never tried an octave pedal, just don't know where to use it.
Also I hate reverbs and delays on bass - it never worked, just added problems to the mix.
When you're bying effets don't forget that many better doom bands (like Blood Farmers and Hour of 13) don't use effects on bass at all. The tough tone is in your fingers/pick, bass and amplification

Yeah. I had aspirations of this crazy tricked out pedal board with lights and stuff. I might still do something semi different since I won't be doing custom paint on the el Oso anytime soon. It just seems silly to me to go overboard building this crazy pedalboard when I only have like 3 pedals. LOL. And chorus and wah were the only other pedals I was trying to talking myself into. Oh well. I only recently got into fuzz and stuff so maybe a drive pedal of some kind. I'll make the board a little bigger than I need for now and I can worry about all the details later. What would you guys say is a good size (LxW?)

Just go see a solid live show. Chances are at least one of the bassists are plugging straight in and absolutely killing it.
