We usually have a good cross section here. I have wanted to kick myself for hesitating on moving on some sales I have seen here on CL and other places. But it comes around and goes around. I have been trying to save up for the anticipated holiday sales and other frenzied events and opportunities that I want to be able to jump on. Like last thanksgiving, Amazon had Ampeg 810 Heritages were going for well below what new classic 810s were going for. The season approacheth! Be ready.

It's hard to say, I just started messing with it. Sounds like less boost if you roll it off a little, high cut towards the lower half of the turn. Like a cut/boost with no center detent, but I can't verify that. I like it just a little rolled off, so far.

Man, I would absolutely love to have Laz's green Ric, but money unfortunately doesn't grow on trees...

It sucks that Ricks are so rare to find in Europe, I've never played one...

Actually unless you can find a store that is a Ric dealer they're not that easy to find in America either (although I'd imagine easier than Europe). I had never played one until I bought my '85 off TB. My local Ric dealer might have 1 4003 at a time.

On the victoria CL, or usedvictoria which gets more traffic, there might be 1 or 2 piece of bass gear per 100 items, most of them are the same ads that have been up for months and it's all priced too high. People want $200 for Squier Affinity's, thats what you pay new, or $6-700 for MIM stuff.
They have a good music scene in Vancouver. Are they musicians that never sell anything? (I love that city) I would imagine never ending supplies of Traynor and Trace Elliot. Sucks to hear that.

Just caught up on everything since last night... I agree with all your responses regarding loudness. Just so y'all know I wasn't suggesting we should turn down... just making conversation. I like it pants-flappingly loud.

Bluebeard #588 is now in my possession, I was on the run-around last night and didn't have alot of time to play with it, but diggin the almost bitcrushed sounds I'm getting with the gain and tone maxed out. May have to try this tone bypass mod after all. I'll post pics once I get a chance to break her open and see what Sonny put on the inside.

I'm gonna go against the grain on loudness. I've damaged my ears with volume, and now have to use plugs for every musical effort. I think all of the audience members who attend are getting hearing damage by the volume of bands, whether in this genre or not.

Loud is not always good.

If you go to a rock show you should bring ear plugs, plain and simple. Being 3 feet away from a quiet drummer is still enough to cause damage to your hearing. I've always worn ear plugs and always will.

I'm *THAT GUY* who always wears earplugs to live shows and especially band prac. I'm only 24 but I cherish my hearing way too much to just throw it away so easily...especially when most of the shows I go to are in small venues with offensively large PA systems in place.
My bandmates are of the firm stance that its just not "rock n roll" to wear plugs and that loud music is loud for a reason. I look forward to asking them how "rock n roll" they feel when they're 35 and can't distinguish what the person next to them is saying :P

Not wearing ear plugs because its "not rock and roll" is so dumb. Once those hair cells that convert sound energy into signals our brain can understand are damaged, they DON'T grow back. I have molded musicians plugs with -15 dB filters that I paid $100 for and I think they make live music sound BETTER.

Personally I don't care what people think. It's all about the situation. Is it too loud? Wear some plugs. Not too loud? Don't wear plugs. I will usually go back and forth because I hate how much cheapo plugs kill the highs.

I watched Dark Castle with plugs and it still hurt. I once fell asleep on a couch in front of Salome without ear plugs one night. I was not drunk or high. Just tired.

If you are worried about looking cool then you're not cool. Simple as that.

If you get plugs molded to your ear canal they do not kill the highs because they use filters that evenly block frequencies. Like I said I think they actually make music sound better cause you don't have to deal with things like ear piercing snare drums.

I went music shopping this weekend and saw a CD from a band called "Riff Lord". Anyone ever heard them? Have we discussed them here? I assumed they were a stoner/doom band but I could be wrong.

I love the name so I may have to go back and give it a listen at the store (do they still let you do that kind of thing?).

Could not agree more. All the excess noise is filtered out and, although quieter, you still get to appreciate all the dynamics of the music being played.

I once went to see Cult of Luna here in Sydney and I cleverly decided "you know what? No earplugs tonight!". Dead set, 10 minutes into the set I had to leave the venue, go to the nearest service station and buy some earplugs. The sheer loudness of that band made the inside of my ears feel like they were being stabbed. I looked around upon returning and noticed the majority of people were not wearing plugs at all. Those poor buggers
