So, I take more calls types, have more volume, which implores doing more work, while the new people get told that that the volume is low and they can go home. ***??? | Well I'm a low level contractor in a large tech/finance organization, so... yeah.
Seems alot of business prefer high turnover/low constant pay rather than tenured experience/appropriate reward. Don't know exactly what industry you're in, but from my fairly young perspective, you can't stay in a job more than 3 years and expect to get ahead.

Sure mine isnt a real ric, but its my stepping stone, I really want a Mapleglo and one of those P bass ones that Mike from earthless plays. I feel the honeymoon phase with it is over, and I'm finally getting to know her really well. She has a name now too, Betheney.
I got used to the ergonomics, AKA the binding. I hated the necks on all the rics i played before mine but mine is perfect, a bit on the fat baseball bat side. And it's tone is versatile, it snuggles into VEGAs mix just right and I can get a great slap tone from it too. It plays like a bass with a hint of guitar to it, and it can support, as well lead sound wise. Playing chords are breeze compared to a P bass.
Im starting to figure out ways I can switch pickups for different tones. Mostly do this when I'm playing alone, because you cant really tell a difference doing it with the full band, plus Im lazy. But I have both picks vol on full but the neck pickups tone is rolled completely off, and the bridge tone is wide open. That gives me a more guitar trebley sound with just the bridge, then switch to both for a bass boost/major thickening up. And just the neck pup is dub city.
Plus it unleashes my inner Al. |

So do any of you Ric owners do any stereo bi-amping with the Ric-o-Sound output? I was contemplating doing it since I'll have 2 amp rigs soon enough. |

I have huge hands and am not too picky as far as neck dimensions, but I tend to sweat alot due to the constant IV drip of caffeine and nicotine going into my blood, and a painted or lacquer finished neck gets tacky immediately.
In other news... I'm negotiating for this sweet chunk of wood... I'd be adding a passive switching option and covering the pickguard entirely in Primus, guns, and hippy stickers. Don't ask why I'm sitting on a surplus of Primus, gun, and hippy stickers.

My Ric neck was getting a little "sticky" but I pulled most of the hardware last night and buffed the **** out of it with some Zymol car wax. It got rid of the sticky feel. Fretboard also now looks incredible.
What is the bass on the right in that picture?! |

What is the bass on the right in that picture?! | Your hands dont have the same sexy clamminess that mine do, between ages 10-14 my body evolved to create its own lube in my palms. Can't imagine why.

As for job. Yeah, this is just a job. Pays the bills, no whiz quiz, but also, no where for a person like me to go. Our home office is out of state and I would have to move there to do anything else within the company. The one stepping stone between average employee and management has been discontinued. The position has been phased out so there really is no where to go without having a Masters in Business Management, which I have no desire to get.
I just need to find something I like doing (or don't hate as much) And truth be told, it wouldn't be bad if we were all treated the same way. Give the tenured employees a chance to go home early. I feel like I would have more benefits by quitting and being rehired... Oh well. More motivation to keep picking away at my degree.

| | Registered User | | Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: Pittsburgh, PA | | Thanks Joe... yeah thats rough, and I truly believe the old adage of "working your way up" the traditional way is dead. You find yourself at age 55 doing marginally better than you were at 30, and at that point might as well just wait til retirement. I haven't quite figured out what the secret to the alternative is yet, but when I do I'll let you know.
1.5 years ago I took a risky job move from full-time salaried to temporary contractor, and so far its been way better. If an opportunity comes your way, just don't be afraid to take a leap of faith, otherwise you'll be sittin in the same chair a year later wondering what if? Quote:

It barely makes a difference to me if the neck is painted or not I can still get around the neck just as fast/easy. |
