Al was using an Ampeg SVT-VR with matching 810, two Ampeg PortaFlex 500? with what looked like an Ampeg 15 and 410- HLF. His Fireglo 4 string Ric and a 5 string Ric which looks like it may be a conversion. Mapleglo 4001V63 body and pickups and painted black neck/headstock. No inlays on the board.
Good time last night. |

Was talking to the rhythm guitarist last night about adding a wah to my setup for Evil Intent and he tells me I'm using too many pedals already. Granted, lately I've been running an interchanging setup at band practice to try out different pedals with the band so it's been a bit silly - but my board is built and I'm working out what's going on there. With a wah and adding a muff like I want to I'll be running 8 pedals - but 3 of them don't count (tuner, blender, DI).
This is also coming from the rhythm guitarist with 7 pedals, but only ever uses 3 (clean, dirt, tuner) and he also used to be the bassist and ran just the Blowtorch by itself.
Yes, we're a black/thrash/death band not a stoner band so me having a giant pedalboard would be out of place - but the handful that I'm running currently is too many? I dunno how to approach this... Already messaged the lead guitarist to ask his opinion, our drummer doesn't really mind about our gear as long as it sounds and looks cool.

Then if it seems like its not going good just turn up and turn all of them on whole they're talking.
Seriously though if you don't critique their stuff I would just ignore it and brush it off |

In other news... I'm negotiating for this sweet chunk of wood... I'd be adding a passive switching option and covering the pickguard entirely in Primus, guns, and hippy stickers. Don't ask why I'm sitting on a surplus of Primus, gun, and hippy stickers. | I actually prefer the painted/lacquered neck. Ones that aren't feel weird to me. |

| | | | At one stage I had more pedals than the guitarist. And half the ones he was using were mine.Nothing wrong with pedals, heaps of fun they are.
ok,so I'm DJ'ing at a venue in the city tomorrow, and I've been instructed to only play stoner rock
ideas?

| | | | Found a good deal on a new-ish Rick, the high-gain neck pickup has been changed out to a toaster - Before I start getting my hopes up, could anybody tell me how that toaster would work in the context of stoner/sludge? (Bogged down with a phaser. fuzz, autowah, ect..)
Most of the great ones have standard high-gain pickups, I'm not letting this break the deal for me, but I'm curious if anyone has any experience. |

Just found this one here which has footage from the show I was at (sound was alright in my case but they only played for 1 hour): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UPryDg9i-SU
Good questions actually, but the sound is beyond horrible, so good luck making out what they are saying :/ |

Most of the great ones have standard high-gain pickups, I'm not letting this break the deal for me, but I'm curious if anyone has any experience. | I owned a 4003 with the high gain and a 4001 with a toaster. the 4003 never sounded as good as the 4001. the toaster has more definition and is a bit more woody sounding. but the diffrences are subtle and there is no way anyone could tell them apart in a mix. i find most of my pedals sound better with my Ric than any other bass. i dont know why but it could be that the lower output plays nicer with pedals...

| | | | Thanks Sam, I've been looking for about a year and a half now trying to find something different from the jazz and after bouncing between two brands (and two totally different basses) I've finally settled on the Ric, just having trouble finding one for the right price.
Since I play a limited amount of stoner/sludge currently (Even in some stoner tunes we've been kicking around we go to clean at a point) but I didn't want to sacrifice the grind and snarl just for a lower price. |

| | | | I had a toaster in my ric when I got it.It just didn't have enough anywhere near enough output.I was going from the super high output of my peavey's pickups to the toasters. They just didn't butter my bread.I found one of the seymour duncan after market pick-ups for $30,gave it a whirl and what do you know? heaps more output, way more low end.
Thanks for the suggestions of dopesmoker.I've got that with me,but I think I've gotta keep it moving a bit!
