There are some old ones that could really pump, but cab design also plays a role too. I think it's mostly to do with transformers and inconsistent power rating standards. So many factors at play when it comes to comparing volume of different rigs.

If I had lots of money and time I'd like to collect a bunch of gear, new and vintage, and run some comparative tests. It would be interested to see the 'real' power and SPL ratings of various configurations of amps and cabs. |

A 200 watt system with massive cabinets that only goes down to 70 Hz will slaughter a 600 watt 410 rig that trying it's best to reproduce 40 Hz and below.
Exhibit A would be vintage Jack Bruce and past and present Lemmy. |

Even doesn't remember the year Remember just that I was stoned so wild, and Al's Ric flated me out like a steamroller, and how my friend divided the price of the ticket with the amount of played songs & said "Too expencive!" That gig was so cool! |

Also found someone to mod my OxFuzz Bass. I am adding a passive tone control to the fuzz side of the circuit to hopefully be ably to tame some of that high mid bump. Also going to look at adding a bit more low end to the fuzz side so that I can keep the blend in as much clean signal. |

| | | | Hey everyone, I'm a long time lurker but I rarely post.
Was just wondering what everyone thinks of the Silverface Sunn Concert Bass distortion channel? Is it usable? I'm considering picking one up. This might be a dumb question but hey I figure this is the right place to ask haha.
Thanks. |

Thanks. | I used to have one that I used as a backup, years ago. I like the tone, it's pretty mean sounding, but it doesn't have a lot of volume. Enough for a practice and maybe a moderately loud gig in a small venue with the volume dimed. It does have a preamp out jack though, so it could be run into a power amp.

My guess is that he has the dual outputs coming out of his Ric going to the different amps. You are probably right one is probably clean and one is dirty. To me it would make more sense to send the dirt to the SVT but who knows.
If the you have a distorted sound coming out of an SVT with a fridge would you even hear the other cabs? So maybe it is the other way around. |

Question, I want to replace the delay i have (its not mine anyway). I want a multi delay that oscillates. Any ideas where I should look? |

Still figuring out what fuzz I want... sitting and waiting for a bluebeard but all this fun new stuff keeps coming out. The manual says it's based off the green sovtek muff and a 70s muff and it has a crossover. No clips or anything yet, sounds nifty. http://www.ehx.com/products/deluxe-bass-big-muff-pi |

| | | | I wish a scene in my area existed, all of us that are trying to get one started have our own bands ( indie, kinda Dinosaur Jr./Melvins experimental sounding) and right now our poor man's ''Shrinebuilder'' is just an outlet to jam and record some ideas. Kind of interesting since we all have a deep enjoyment of stoner/sludge/doom, but due to our normal gigs our gear is all over the place. (We have some of the standard gear, tube amps and such - But I've yet to see another stoner band with a guitar player switching between a LP and a gretsch-hollowbody in just normal jamming situations) |
