I've played though a few of their heads and I've yet to have played one that sounded bad.
I used to own a Ric like 6 or 7 years ago. At the time I didn't really care for it. I don't know why, I just didn't.
Now whenever I happen upon one at a music store I end up playing it and dig it. So at some point in the near future I'll probably end up getting another one.
After playing that Stingray though I'm now considering going that route.
If Ernie ball made a "real" Stingray that was passive it would be a no brainer for me.

My guitarists and I "routed" out my junk jazz bass. Now we have to figure out the wiring.
Model One (Neck) Ric (Middle) Jazz (Bridge)
Thinking V/V/V/T with kill switches on each pickup? Probably be easier. Or wire it up like a backwards strat with a Varitone.
I'm not good with figuring out wiring. I need a diagram. haha
I may have to venture over to the Pickups/Electronics area. And then have everyone tell me how stupid the idea is and how bad it's going to sound.

So jamming over the weekend, played through an interesting jank-rig that ended up bringing some supreme pain.
Keep in mind, all I want is to run my Acoustic amp, my Sunn cab, and my Grey Stache muff. That would make me happy.
Instead, my Acoustic is on the bench right now (more on that later), and I forgot my pedalboard at home. So I used an 800 watt Carvin class-A amp I keep as a backup. Only its low watts at 4 ohms, so I dragged out our crappy Crate 2x15 and plugged that in too. We couldn't find any 9v batteries for pedals and my power supply is with my board, so I was pushing that Carvin to the max to get it to overdrive a bit. 800 watts pouring into 4 15"s, man once you try it you never want to use anything else. Amp was running hot as sh** and smelled kind of burny but it kept pumpin. Probably ran it harder than is healthy, but hey thats what they're made to do, right?
JoeVictim: I didn't get to demo the $28 15" in my Peavey cab. I had to fix my Sunn quick and get out the door to practice. But I can give a quick synopsis: they aren't the loudest drivers ever, but they're not super hi-fi either so they fit our sound. I predict feeding them some fuzz will garner good results. I'm not sure if I like the bass response, the Crate had a bit more low-end it sounded like, but then again the Crate takes less watts than the drivers in the Sunn, so I guess it was being pushed harder when I ran them both at once. All in all, they don't sound like $150 drivers, but if you're adding them to an already large modular rig as just "helper" speakers they get the job done. I wouldn't lean on them for my primary tone though. But christ cmon, they're $28 15" drivers!!
So in other news, took the Acoustic home and opened her up:
It appears to be easily fixable, so says my Dad who was an electrician from 1970 until now. This coil doohicky shook itself loose it seems, and when it lost its connection the resistor next to it exploded. Theres a little crater/burn circle on the board and some scarring on the coil. Dad says we can replace the resistor, reattach that coil, and it should jump back to life. We'll see.

On a different subject that goes boom, I found this Rossi Ranch Hand. It might look ridiculous, but damn that's what I always wanted but didn't realize existed. For recoil and saving money, what's generally cheaper 45 LC, .38 special/357 mag, or .44 mag?
Also it's marketed as a pistol, and as such has a tiny stock and seems meant for hipfire and aiming takes time. Would adding a real full size rifle stock make it illegal?
Also if this post is illegal let me know asap and I'll remove it, if it isn't I have the link to the actual item I can post. |

Pretty clean tone. | Their clean tone was what drew me to them initially. I was playing mostly in bands that you want a fairly clean sound (doing radio rock covers and some death metal in another band). When I started playing in BHD it became noticeable how it just didn't take to OD well. The Sansamp sounded good through it but my Pork Loin sounded like bunk. I could never find a distortion that worked with it either.
So I switched to the EBS. I stopped using the Sansamp (they just don't seem to play nice together), but the OD pedal really comes to life with it. Also, the amp's own OD is excellent.
I still use an Eden cab. For cabs I want as clean a representation of the bass, effects and amp as possible, and Eden cabs do that nicely.

You're probably best with .38/.357, you can get real cheap plinker .38, and of the big boy rounds I think 357 is the cheapest.
Those aren't the most practical guns though, I thought they were cool but didnt know what I'd do with it. I can't buy s firearm unless it has a practical doomsday application... I ended up with a semi-auto 9mm carbine instead.

I used to gas real hard for the Navigator pre and the eden 212(dlx?). My dream rig when I first started posting was a Navigator pre, into a crown power amp, into 4 of those 2-12" cabs.
Of course my gear tastes have changed, but I would still want to try that rig out.
I can't say if I have a dream rig anymore, too much cool stuff out there.
