Awesome. What is it about the Rickenbacker ultimo fans that make them have this reputation?

Well Rickenbacker is one of the few companies (maybe the only) that has historically patented and protected its designs from day 1, so some people see copies as both illegal (they are) and an offense to what the company strives to protect.

On the other hand, not everyone can afford a $1500 bass, and a lot of those copies were made 30+ years ago, so it is what it is. Doesn't really bother me one way or another.

I really dig my copy...but if I can find a real Ric in my price range, I'd totally take it over the copy.

I'm no crazy ric fan, they are great basses, but the only real ric I for see me picking up is a Mapleglo with a fat neck, otherwise my copy will do just fine.

The neck on the green Ric was pretty fat. Neck on my blue Ric is very thin. Excited for my EGC. Supposed to have a pencil thin neck.

thinking i may look into an Aggie cab in the new year. DB810 or DB412...found a used 412 for an ok price but it's in the tweed colour which i am not a huge fan of. if i can get for a cheap enough price, maybe.

if i had to move them everyday then that's a different story, but we gig once every 2 months so weight is not really a factor.

Haha fair enough. But carrying a 185 lbs 8x10 down a narrow flight of stairs drunk as hell at 2 am doesn't sound like my idea of a fun time

ahh but rule #3 is don't get drunk until all the gear, or at least the heavy stuff, has been packed.

So you guys play sober? Do you also have songs about the power of Jesus Christ?!

Also, I'd say probably at least half of the venues I've played are difficult to load out right after you play. Lots of times no one can loud out until the whole show is over.

yeah we play sober, or at least sober enough to load gear afterwards. I can't really speak for the other guys but I myself can't play anything if i'm too drunk. Some venues make it difficult to unload but usually it's not bad. most of the crowd heads outside to smoke during the change overs so there is room to move around.

I'm just messing around. We typically play mostly sober, maybe aside from our singer. But I typically prefer a non-100% sober front man!

I typically have like four whiskey gingers before playing. Enough to get most people drunk, enough for me to take a slight edge off haha. Damn tolerance.

I'm the same way. If I start to feel a little tipsy, my playing diminishes quite a bit. I stick to a 2-3 beer minimum when playing. Probably less when we start doing gigs.

We drink pretty often when writing new songs. It's science! http://www.wired.com/wiredscience/20...d=story_ribbon

i definitely have a ritual of 2-4 beers or 2-4 gin and tonics (depending on bar and mood) and a tequila shot directly before i go on stage. i'm not a huge fella, but i've built a tolerance, and it's enough for a good buzz.
