Nope, I saw his tech tuning it before they started, but Matt never played it.

OldCrow: 10,000 years is one of my favs as well. Was stoked to hear the intro. Pulled out my phone immediately and recorded some. I also really love Baghdad from the same album. There's really very very little HoF I don't love though.

Laz: Yeah Matz held it down man. His tone was just sick. I've read somewhere that he writes lots guitar riffs too. I guess some of the guitar tracks on the albums are actually him playing. Particularly on Snakes for the Divine I believe.

I'm typically very against putting "celebrities" on pedestals which is so prevalent these days, but man when I saw Matt and said a few words (Me: "Hey, sup man" Matt: "Hey man, how's it going" Me: "Great, came to watch you guys melt some faces" Matt: cackles, "Right on man") I felt giddy as hell. I confessed this to my wife and she said "Well at least you weren't giddy after speaking to Bieber or some other idiot". I suppose she's right, it could be worse.

If I got to speak to Al, I would not say a word, I would simply pass my joint to him.

That is a good idea. I tried talking to him at roadburn at it was one of the most awkward experiences ever.

Although he did bum a smoke off my guitar player and chatted with us for a couple minutes when OM played the bottle like 5 years ago now. That experience went a lot better.

Seems like Al is much more quiet/reserved compared to Matt. Or he's just always high as a kite.

Yup, from all the people that I know irl that have seen Om/Sleep lately, Al always seems to bump awkwardly onto things when something with the sound goes wrong (like when he almost topled a 4x10 ) or just get ultra mad (but still quiet) and leave the stage or something. On another instance, he tripped on a cable and fell near the end of the set and when he got up he left everything and went straight to the console guy to shout him a couple of things

But you can't hold hard feelings against him, can you?

Al seems like the type of person to have social anxiety issues. Probably has unintentionally rubbed some people the wrong way.

Listening to Solace - A.D. on vinyl right now. Freaking love this album. No one really talks about them but they kick ass.

Matt Pike was using two Soldano SLO's with 4 Emperor 4x12's and a custom white First Act Les Paul.

Jeff Matz was using an SVT with two 4x10's and what looked like a Sunn 2000S with two 4x12's, one being an Emperor. Not exactly sure which bass he was playing. Tone was SICK.

Here's some clips of Frost Hammer and 10,000 years. I took them with my iPhone, so don't expect greatness.

That bass sounds way better then that first act he had. Pretty sure he is back to using p basses. Speaking of p basses im putting yet another pup in my white P this weekend. Question for you guys. How long to you keep swiping pups till you give up? Reason i ask is this P bass is the lightest, fastest, best playing bass i have. Its a parts bass that really just fell together perfectly, per say. I have had 2 pickups in its and on to the third and i afraid it will never be "right". Thoughts?

Bass in question:

Try putting something in there that isn't a P pickup and it might sound better...

Bass in question:

Sounds stupid but you'll just know. I went through 6 or 7 pickups before I settled on the BKP in my burst Heritage. But the stock Duncan hums in my second Heritage (same pickup as the burst) sounded incredible, it's really finding the right pair for that slab of wood, it could take awhile.

And guitars in question, because yeah, there haven't been enough gear shots:

So I'm looking at this time next year for my Bluebeard if I read Sonny's email right. Any suggestions on a upgrade from my bass big muff around 100 bucks to hold me over? I been eyeing the pickle pie b and box of war.

Although I wonder what the wait would be for a wizard fuzz…

I think Matz is using a Fender BlackTop jazz bass with the double p bass pups in it. At least that what it looked like when I saw them.

Caught goatwhore a while back here in baton rouge, the sound guy totally made that show. Dude had the BEST mix, it was just pounding without being fatiguing to listen to. Great show; but I'm biased, been following Sammy since Acid Bath.

Question for the Texas Doomers,

I'm gonna be in the DFW area the 13th-18th. Are there any good gear stores besides Guitar Center that I should check out while I'm down there? I'll probably only have a small window to check out gear, so if there's a store that's more epic than the other, steer me towards that one.
