I've made a couple of post here (once I figured out the numbered thread thing and how to keep up with the posts), so I thought I'd do a formal hello to the doom club. Y'all got a nice vibe and ridiculous amounts of information. Internets at it's best.
I've got too much gear and not enough talent. Here's the main rig - Fender Big Block EBJr volume>dunlop bass wah>korg tuner>bass big muff Pi>blue beard>Fulltone Bassdriver>phase 90>GK 1001RBII>Avatar neo 4x10 & neo 2x12. I got an Acoustic 370 to replace the GK and will try the Laz-Eye technique with the fuzz pedals for the sustain. Thanks to the person that posted that in the 37 thread. I play in a doom band in MA.
Thinking of selling the avatars to get an Ampeg 8x10. Thoughts? Has anyone had any experience with Black Cat Pedals?
Thanks and doom on. |

Toast, I might hit you up for that speaker link after the holidays. I keep looking at the empty Peavey 2-15" and imagine that behind me too. Have to get my pedal needs taken care of first.

Thanks and doom on. | The black cat overdrive is cool but it was really designed to push a tube amp. It doesn't have enough eq to control the shrillness of opamp clipping. I haven't tried the octave fuzz.
I would say get an 8x10 if you want one. It's not required and isn't guaranteed to sound better than your Avatars. I had an Avatar 2x12 that I really liked. I play an 8x10 as a good middle of the road cab. I can share it with other bands or I can be expected to use someone elses. There are cabs by Hartke/Port City/BFM/Fearful that I'd rather play but it's a good safe cab for me. |

Maybe I'm not uber metal, Everyone calls me viking now. The hair is great for headbanging.
I just need to start walking, but I has no mp3 player. I can't be alone with my thoughts!
Good job though man. I need to drop about 75lbs myself. I'm naturally big even in bootcamp I couldn't get below 200.

Thanks and doom on. | Welcome! I know there's a lot of varying opinion, but I love the Ampeg 810e, mine has always sounded great with everything I've run through it. If you've got the means to haul it around I'd go for it, they sound great with Acoustic, Sunn and GK solid state gear from my experience. I'd hold on to one of the smaller cabs though, you never know when it will come in handy to scale down and be mobile for a jam session or something.

I hadn't yet received all the parts for it the last time I had a moderate volume jam session and had to haul my 410HLF. Even though I love having a huge rig and playing loud, it's pretty convenient to be able to grab a small loud rig, with a gig bag over my shoulder and still have one hand free.
