Any of you guys know of any good gear stores (besides GC) in the DFW area? Gonna be there this weekend and I wanna check out some cool sh*t while I'm down that way. | Yelp says nope! |

I use my Rickenbacker 4001 for black metal and folk/rock, and my modded Peavey for doom metal. Both work well, even if not traditionally associated with some of the stuff I play on them.
The opinion on any given bass that matters for your decision isn't mine, it's yours.
There's this attitude that you can only use a certain bass for a certain kind of music, or a certain amp, or whatever, and I personally think that's a load of bull. I think you can use most basses for most styles, it's just a matter of which one you like the sound of and feel of the best for any given piece of music you're playing. | +1.
There are plenty of basses I liked for different reasons. Some of the best:
The Warwick I had was the most playable bass I ever had. With about $1000, I am sure I would have eventually found a preamp I liked to go with it. Best playing bass I ever had. It was a little heavy, so I don't think I would have kept her anyways...
OLP I would have kept if I could have figured out a way to drop 2-3lbs off of her. Monster tone for a passive *(upgraded to SD basslines). Neck was a bit chunky and cumbersome for me (playing a Jazz since day 1). But, I made it work. Body must have been basswood. dented pretty easy. Finish was overall good. a few rough frets. But, it sold brand new for $229 (i think). I paid 125 + tax. Drop $80 on pickup and you got a giggable bass with great tone.
Squier Affinity P bass. Never stayed in tune but held intonation. Was set up for butter. Mega low action..(only thing I have ever seen lower was an MIJ Ibanez with PJ and the pointy headstock with shark inlays) Decent P bass tone. Sold A long time ago though. Neck felt a bit too chunky (better intonation?). I should have kept this one...
Carvin SB4K, is my current #1.
Passive J bass all the way, on point with the USA Fenders I have tried tonewise (I'll dare to say, better tone) .

Summer gigs outside in hou, Tx; flip flops and cargo shorts are a survival mechanism.

Some one mention music stores in Dallas ft worth? Dallas sucks.
Pawn shops in Austin are awesome. Few mom and pop guitar shops…
Houston has Rockin robin and Fuller's vintage guitars. They both have some really cool basses, amps and effects.
