It was the most punishing, heavy, and amazing thing I had ever heard (especially In the name of Suffering).
The only other set I've seen that could top it was Yob doing all of the unreal never lived. That was the best Doom/metal/heavy set I've ever seen. | At the little brown bottle?
Edit: empty bottle?

But the bass has way more mid's in it then most bands in that genre do IMO (which is why it cuts through like a knife), maybe that's what your hearing is the combo of both together. I dunno. I've never perceived anything nasal about their tone, and I listen to them a lot. But hey everyone's ear's hear different things.

I guess it would be acoustic southern or blues stuff. | Mountain Mirrors is pretty cool |

It would definitely give me that clanky drive sound I'm looking for.
The distortion I designed is sort of an all or nothing huge dirt sound. I'm thinking I need to experiment with some low gain drive designs.
Plus...I don't have $200 for a Bluesbreaker clone. | I agree with Ron, you could probably get there with any of a few Tech 21 dirt pedals and a few others. It doesn't sound that unique really, but different pedals will get you within different gain and tone ranges, depending on what you want to get out of it. My EBS Multidrive gets similar sounds up to moderate gain levels, but has no tone knob, just three different modes that have different EQ curves. If you're looking to spend a gift certificate, a used GT2 would probably be a good use of it.
Not acoustic, but Yawning Man has good mellow instrumental stoner jams. Kind of like stoner surf rock to my ear. Maybe I'm crazy and that description would scare people off, I dunno, but they've got a very reverb drenched clean single coil guitar sound with lots of string bends. Quote:

Then everyone in this thread kept going on and on about them, so I just put on The Unreal Never Lived while I was making a long drive for work and now I love them. I don't know if it's just that I was never in the right mood to listen, started with the wrong album or maybe just my tastes have changed since the first time I listened to them...but now The Unreal Never Lived is one of my favorite albums.

Acid Bath is good - as is all of Dax's solo stuff (Deadboy & the Elephant Men, Agents, solo records) - Listened to them a ******** in high school.
Yawning Man is probably one of my top 10 bands. They're playing in LA on the 25th, I'll be out there for Namm, but I'm booked solid with work stuff so I doubt I'll be able to make it. Bummer, because they don't really tour in the states.
I have not heard Atma, but YOB is the ****. Catharsis, Unreal Never Lived and Illusion of Motion are my favorites. I still think Catharsis has the best production of any of them. I was heavily into my E-Wiz phase when Catharsis came out and it was a revelation: "Wow, you don't need ****** production and Boss FZ tones to be the heaviest band on the planet." Knocked E-wiz off the pedestal for me. Not into the Great Cessation as much though...

Damn, work sucks today. I finally get to talk with my onsite healthcare worker (nurse practitioner) Here's hoping they re-up some pain pills so I can continue sitting at this desk doing menial tasks...
Even though bud is legal in Colorado, not all employers are cool with toking...especially on site. party poopers.
