Once you get into the upper end cables its no longer about capacitance loss (or "tone loss") IMO but more about build quality. I can't tell a huge difference between my ELC's and Platinum's tonally but they are built extremely well, the Core X2 Bass cables are built like freaking tanks, heaviest duty cable all around that I own. For my pedal boards I use lava mini-elc with solderless plugs and as long as you don't keep constantly rotating out pedals they seem to work great, atleast for me. Out of 12-14 cables I have one connector that sometimes works loose and I know exactly which one it is and i always tighten it up before practice and gigs.

Conquest cables from board to amp.
A mix of generic 1/4" to 1/4" barrel and pancake ended cables for pedal connection. I did want a wire kit to make custom lengths and what not, but I got things going so it would purely be a want and their are other things I want more, so...yeah.

Hosa I've used for a long time, all my XLR, TRS and speaker cables for recording have always been Hosa and I've never had a single failure, also use them for all my patch cables on my boards as well. The Monster Cable stuff I use for my instrument cables and speaker cables for my amps and I've had them since 2004 or so. I got a gift certificate for a small music shop a few towns over and just went in and bought cables, strings and straps. Since they have a lifetime warranty I haven't bought any new cables since. I've had to replace a few, brought them into GC and did the quick exchange thing. At some point in the near future I'll probably replace them with more Hosa cables, as I have good experience with the brand and they're not very expensive. I've never noticed a difference in sound quality between any cables ever, unless they're shorting out and losing connection or something.

But as far as sounding better its all subjective, if you have a treble knob you can approximate the same tones regardless. Like I said it really just comes down to cable quality.

The only time I have ever heard an audible difference was when I was using a freebie cable from Rondo. I've seen thicker guaged earings than this cable. When I was in a pinch, I used it. It wasn't horrible but changing from that cable to the livewire elite was night and day. It went from kind of a muffled tone, to being a lot more open sounding.

| | Plug In, Turn Up, Doom Out. Long Range Fluffer Owner: Dunwich Amps | | | | | i think im going to convert over to light modulation instead of using electrons to transport my signal. Each pedal will have a opto-modulator to convert the electrical signals into light waves to be received by a de-modulator at the input of the next pedal. Im really striving to take everything to another level, beyond true bypass, the real truthiest bypass I could achieve. |
