yeah that article was a pretty hilarious read. It made me read the rest of the articles in that series which turned out to be also quite enjoyable.

gotta admit, I agree.

Basically this. I use my El Oso with low gain settings but not for a low gain tone. I run my Bluebeard always on. With the BB you could say my tone is in 3rd gear, and then activating the El Oso takes my tone into 5th gear destroying everything in it's path.

using what gear?

using the stingray, the JGR, fender mb1200 and a berg 412.
It doesnt have that "passive bass clank".. but its there... with the jazz it totally did when I dug in. I had some kinda bright strings on it. If you use old deadons and play mellow then no way.

I think the JGR is the key :). Just not sure if I want to go with the whole pre/power setup.

Ugh, one day I'm gonna just cave and get one of those JGR preamps.

just the opposite. the ose is my always on and the joyo is my total annihilation. Same principle though.

Ah ok yeah I have a B3K that I could probably use to the same effect. I got a supercollider recently and that's an awesome fuzz that stays on pretty well all the time for my heavier sounds.

I don't really like the B3K on it's own for stoner stuff. Thought maybe the el oso would be better since I know alot of you guys swear by it but I thought you guys just used it on it's own.

well I guess that saves me a purchase.

I honestly haven't tried to use the El Oso as a standalone pedal but it could probably do it quite well. Between the mix and gain knobs there's a lot of tone range.

Yeah those were some awesome posts Dun. I really learned alot. I was under the impression that every EQ was basically the same in that they boosted or cut whatever frequency they were set to affect.

Didn't know that very few (classic) amps have a tone stack that is actually capable of boosting mids.

I vouch for it as a standalone. I just wanted to see what throwing an overdrive did with it. ****ing gnarly.

I just added the Joyo UD recently, so it's been el oso for the last 7 months.

Well from the demos I've heard I don't really like it on it's own. It's got too much treble and high end for my taste. I like a warmer and woollier sound for stoner.

I'll probably just stick with the supercollider as my go to dirt. It's got enough mid grit and punch but is still muffy enough which is the type of sound I dig.

Sound clips of OCD on bass are pretty nice sounding though. Might have to look into one or Dun's version of it.

Well it IS a distortion pedal, but the mix knob let's you dictate how much low end is effected.

Also I'll say most demo videos are pretty worthless. I may watch them from time to time but I'll never know if a pedal will work for me until I actually try it.

no kidding. not sure if he's still building them. I think I read that he was working an integrated amp design now.
