the lyrics in that song are either ridiculously prophetic or that **** has been going on a long time. |

With the breakdowns (that song basically invented death metal breakdowns), insane walking bass lines, synchronized horn sections, and just heavy as hell riffs. I honestly never got much further. Every time I listened to another song I didn't really like it and just put 21st Century back on. | Laz,
Crim needs serious listening. Fripp is insanely influential in all sorts of genres.
I suggest any Crimson album from 1984 back. We all have our favorites, but the heavy fans usually favor Larks Tongues in Aspic, Starless and Bible Black, and Red. The line-up has John Wetton on bass and Bill Bruford handling the drums. Insane rhythm section!
Even without chemical or herbal help, if you listen to any of these with headphones and you're in the right frame of mind, you can trip pretty heavily. Especially Larks Tongue's.
Another, more 'recent' disc is Discipline. Much more modern with freaky effects, especially from the amazing Adrian Belew. It's still almost 30 years old, but f'it. Anything after Red is new.
And screw the vinyl. Red, Starless and Bible Black, even ITCOTCK is available on DVD-Audio, and the mastering blows away any CD or analogue mastering that was ever done.
For intense, heavy live stuff, find the Great Deceiver box set.
Anywaym get past 21st Century and go to Epitaph and In the Court of the Crimson King. And f' that Beatles comparison. Lennon/McCartney couldn't come up with those two songs with all the acid on the planet! Poseurs!.... |

on my ebay scouring at work today, i've come up with a question and a statement:
- anyone tried one of those Buddha Machine 4s?
- those Eclipse preamp pedals from the crazy russian dude (beta lead AND beta bass) are now pre built and listed on ebay, if you guys wanted to mc_muench-ify your rig. |

I'd wager cash on that one. I imagine hundreds of would be rockers snickering while imagining the intro "Hello...we're The Worst".
You also just unintentionally reminded me that I made it through autumn and most of winter without cooking beer bath brats. Which is an oversight that I should rectify this weekend.

Prog at it's finest. Saw them on the corresponding tour back in 2003/4 mind blowing. |

I don't think it will be me 100%, but I suspect I'll be doing a significant chunk of it. That's never really been my role before, though, so I'm picking up lots of this as I go.
I was just curious how many of you guys were active in the biz end of things.

Most of the time it's just us out and running into people and getting asked if we could play something. It helps to have been in the scene around here forever and also be friends with almost every bartender in town. |

that poses an interesting question though - who in the thread has had a distribution deal? i know they can be incredibly varied on paper. i've only come into contact with digital distribution deals, never the fine print on physical copies.
i imagine they would change wildly from the norm in this genre too. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
