Kinda skids downhill from there.
And being from Ohio, I gotta admit, I'm not sure the whole thing was fiction |

For those who haven't seen it, or don't want to, here is a clip to persuade you
(however I suggest you don't watch it, just know that there is a pleasant stoner surprise a few minutes in the movie) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iBevc5qQFYg |

I think of Graveyard as just retro rock, like the Black Crows. I think they're just considered stoner rock because that's the scene that's embraced non-cover oriented classic rock bands. I love classic rock, blues rock and southern rock, so I have no complaints. I also love heavy metal, grunge, hardcore punk and the more extreme punk and metal genres. I feel like it's just a great coincidence that these genres all seem to get some play (if only in mutated form sometimes) under the Stoner/Doom blanket.

I love how you want to take a bath after watching Gummo, especially when the creepy kid is taking a bath in that filthy bath water, and eating spaghetti, and a candy bar, then drops the candy bar in the filthy water and does the 5 second rule, love it. F'n Bunny Rabbits, I hate F'n bunny rabbits, priceless. most of the cast he hired by watching people walk in to a local fast food chain. But the cats killing is weak, they probably hit women in the name of God too, scumbags!!!

I thought I liked both of those genres but whenever I ask for recommendations I end up getting bands that I don't like that sound like The Sword or Red Fang or Electric Wizard. For some reason I thought stoner rock was a different thing than stoner metal.... Maybe I'm just really confused. Same with Doom. I'm not really sure what's going on there, because I LOVE Pallbearer and Hooded Menace and they were labeled as doom but it seems like most other bands labeled as doom sound different... Maybe I just assumed that since I stone the metal I listen to would be stoner metal.
So what do I listen to? My playlist of albums today has been:
-High On Fire - De Vermis Mysteriis
-Hooded Menace - Never Cross the Dead
-Neurosis - Times Of Grace
-Cult of Luna - Cult of Luna
Is this just sludge and not associated with doom or stoner? I don't need any "genres are useless" answers, it is very helpful when trying to communicate what I like to listen to. I also have noticed that pretty much all you guys do is talk about tone, and I have noticed that when I don't like a stoner band it's usually got more fuzz than gnarly overdrive, so perhaps stoner is fuzzy and sludge isn't?
WHERE DO I BELOOOOONGGG?
Also somebody's band on here named Burrows is really good, I can't remember who it was but it was fantastic and he's a really good bassist. | I am relatively new to the of this style of music, grew up on metal, thrash, then on to punk/alternative then on to jam bands. And always classic stuff and greasy rock, Zep and Sabbath, Frank Zappa, Soundgarden. I think boredom with a lack of rock music in general leads to this music. I think the sub genres are linked by retro and tube amp tones and fuzz mostly. I prefer more rock than metal and it is hard for me to find the style I prefer, actually I like instrumental and minimal lyric bands, as I prefer to hear the guitar and bass sing the music, but I think it is fun to hear the other bands and like finding a diamond in the rough when I found about Hypnos 69, Colour Haze, Sleep, etc.
