Do you guys use attenuators or just use solid state practice amps. I have a 100 watt SS Acoustic for going to buddies and home, and a Hartke tube pre amp/ss power amp over a 410 that I use at home. But that tubey goodness comes from the power amp. I also started on guitar and all I use is a Fender Champ all tube 5 watt pushed into a Yorkville 15 inch PA amp, which is plenty loud for the house. So tonight I said hmm, lets hook the bass up to it and man I hardly wanted to use my pedals and I loved how I could go from clean to dirt with use of my volume know like on guitar. I am probably just babbling, I think it's the high of playing a bass through tubes, like the first time I played guitar through tubes. I can't even imagine what is must be like to rock those SVTs like you guys do. Wish there were more micro tube bass amps.

I think the sub genres are linked by retro and tube amp tones and fuzz mostly. I prefer more rock than metal and it is hard for me to find the style I prefer, actually I like instrumental and minimal lyric bands, as I prefer to hear the guitar and bass sing the music, but I think it is fun to hear the other bands and like finding a diamond in the rough when I found about Hypnos 69, Colour Haze, Sleep, etc. | There are lots of instrumental bands these days the most well known is probably Karma to Burn but here are some others that you may not have heard of.
Earthless
Serpent Throne
Tia Carrera
The Bakerton Group
Black Bombaim
Bongripper
Husky
Dead Wrestler
The Mystik Krewe of Clearlight
Orquesta del Desierto
Radar Men from the Moon
Ten East
Electric Magma
35007
And of course Monobrow

And of course Monobrow | Oh man priceless I thought Lazurus was talking about the real Tia Carrera, lol. I have heard of few of the ones mentioned like Karma to Burn, Earthless, Bongripper, Ten East, and enjoy them all. Thanks for giving me to check out!!! I will add Pelican to the list.

I love his band Witch, not instrumental though, but sometimes lyrics are tolerable lol. I saw an interview where Frank Zappa said how he hated lyrics, but the record guys insisted, so he said something to the effect of ok I will make the most idiotic lyrics to add to my music.

I keep my 410 and vb2 at the practice space and my 810 and svt 3 in my living room. Quote:

After making my guitarist read your amp thesis we re recorded our ep's guitar tracks with new eq settings. Gain between 2 and 5 depending on the song and effects. Treble 5. Middle 10. Bass 2.5. Best guitar tone we've recorded yet from his traynor combo. Guitar now sits way better in the mix. He also started redoing all his leads with my bluebeard. He's in lust with it. We also used my punch factory here and there. It's good to be making progress again.
