Everything looks okay when my guitar player and I inspected it, but there's obviously something wrong. I'm pretty bummed out. It's an old ass speaker, so it may have just crapped out from old age. Gonna look around and see if I can find a place to get it reconed, maybe a replacement. Any suggestions, fellas? |

Having 1 or 5 or more mid range positions is not consequential on the complexity. The circuit is very large and the # of positions is only determined by the LRC circuit on the bottom of the scheme. Reducing it to just 1 combination still requires 3 triode sections, dozen plus parts and lots of wiring space.
It could be stuck after or before any other EQ but it would be some what rendered less useful IMO after a FMV which has such a strong mid cut. Kind of wastes the active part of the mid EQ. However, that is kind of what Mesa did/does. The classic designs all use a Fender FMV and then right before the phase inverter they have SS graphic or parametric EQs | Interesting.
That's kinda how I use my D-180's graphic EQ, actually. The regular mid control I basically pretend isn't there, since it's "flat-ish" at 10, so it may as well not be.
Less useful, certainly, after an FMV, given that you'd already have a bid of a mid cut, but maybe if you liked the sound of a specific amp but wanted to be able to actually boost your mids in some situations. I don't know. This has been very informative. |

I get the feeling that he knows what he likes and doesn't chase tone like some of us folks... | I found it interesting that he switched, given how long he used Ampeg. |

My sterling sub is apparently haunted and works whenever it feels like it. Really hate going to claim warranty but probably still will later this week. I don't want to take it in unless it's acting up or they'll look at me stupid.
Had the meeting with that band I'm going to be trying out for. We chatted at hooters over wings, beer, and scantily clad waitresses who they pestered and tormented. It was a pretty good time. Have some cds to listen to and have to prepare for my tryout in a couple weeks. Hopefully it all works out.
Oh yeah my wife started looking at heads/combos for me last night and I explained the positives and negatives of some etc. Now that's quality time.

If it wasn't so dang heavy for a combo, I could seriously see using that as my main rig. |

Pretty funny though... thing is so light it will shoot across the room if you let it at higher volume. Starting to realize that there is such a thing as too light. After I get a stack I'll still keep it for practice.

I guess for me I know an 810 barely holds up for some of my needs. For the same reason that anyone saying "an ampeg/mesa/fEARful/Emperor/Peavey/Etc rig is all anyone should need/want" doesnt apply, neither does "a combo will cover all your needs."

Much less the 10 month old baby (since my wife does most of the baby stuff, she would be pissed if I woke him up). I haven't played into an amp at home since Christmas. Before that, I haven't since before I started this band...
