We had another great band practice tonight. First two songs are pretty much done, as far as writing music goes. We're still kind of getting them tight and getting the right tempo and feel. The drummer is getting used to laying to the back of the beat, he's used to faster punk/hardcore stuff, but getting in the groove of things quickly. We have a third song mostly done, still trying to figure out a bridge/ending for it and working the kinks out.

We had a tape deck and a SM58 sitting around the storage space where we practice, so we recorded the 2 songs we have down now. Kind of rough, but it's only our fourth practice so far.

Out of all the band name ideas we threw around, only 3 or 4 weren't taken (sometimes several times over). The group favorite choice, also coincidentally the most available for urls/email/bandcamp/everything, is Warp Rig.

Cool! Glad you like it. It does sound pretty good stacked with various other pedals. I just snatched up the Rusty Box on the Classifieds. I can't wait to hear that in person. I have way too many preamps. lol. I am digging the BB atm. Once the tax return lands, I will order my Oh See Demon from Ryan.

Nice tracks Corey! Nice tone for a rough track too. That sounds like fun stuff to play drums to. A guitarist and myself tried a bassist out last weekend. I am playing drums for this project. The bassist came in wanting to do more technical death metal, but he does like some doom stuff as well. I guess we will see how it turns out.

One thing that I always like about metal over a lot of other music growing up is that there are tons of great riffs and plenty of changes. I liked the slower end of death metal like Obituary and Morbid Angle. It sounds odd to some to say that MA is slower death, but a lot of the guitar parts are chugging along or dragging out a part while the drums are pumping 32nds. Its funny how the guitars can make the drums sound slow when they are cruising along.

So Graveyard and Redfang are playing here somewhere around the 13th or so of Feb. I have seen Redfang, I wouldn't mind catching Graveyard though.

Thanks Road Bull, I think the single mic did a pretty decent hob of picking up everything.. I'm a big fan of that type of song arrangement, slow riffs o er fast drums. The song we didn't record has a fair bit of that, actually. Not to death metal levels though.

Right on. I am not that big a fan of PLAYING death metal drums. It is too much of a workout these days. And while I like hearing the occasional track from Behemoth, I would have less fun playing it. I do like the structure of a lot of metal though. The structure can be applied to anything though. I saw a three piece years back (an upright bass, a piano, and a dude playing a Toca Cajon) playing in someone's living room. The music was more improv, but the structure and parts in how they related to one another were waaaaaaay metal. So much so that they even commented on it after the set.

But for now. I dig HEAVY. I am excited. I ordered Bongripper's Hate Ashbury, and Satan Worshiping Doom last night. There are lots of ways to be heavy these days, and we are lucky to have literally tons of music and great gear to get us to our happy place.

I accidentally put on Monoliths & Dimensions at the wrong speed (33 instead of 45). If any of you think Sunn O))) doesn't sound unsettling enough already, give it a try.

I just realized Sonny might've laz'd me accidentally. He was supposed to send me a shirt in September, but after I hadn't heard of him in a while and he hadn't responded to my email about it, I kinda forgot. Oh well, he's a busy guy and it doesn't really matter.

I've done this as well. Took me a while to notice though.

It was thin, not a lot of definition, not very versatile and too dark and mushy for me.

Hey guys, haven't posted here in quite a while...

I'm kinda GASing for a nice fuzz right now. Looking for something 150€ max.

Candidates are:

Swollen Pickle Mk.II
Black Arts Pharaoh
Musket Fuzz
(Fender Sublime, it's a little too big for my taste...)
MXR Bass Fuzz Deluxe

I'm playing through a Bass Big Muff right now, which I feel hardly cuts through at all (unless you have an extreme volume increase, in which case it just drowns everything else) and also kinda sounds more like a Distortion than a Fuzz.

Any other suggestions and experiences with the pedals are veeery welcome!

I vote Pharaoh out of those options, but it toes the line between distortion and fuzz, regardless it's awesome.

And in before anyone mentions Bluebeard, but the Bluebeard is awesome, I've had one for going on 10 years now and it's yet to get kicked off my guitar or bass board.

What kind of sound are you looking for?

Hmm, thats kinda hard to answer. I really dig the tone in Oms State of Non Return, but I also like that really compressed Fuzz sound of Wanna Be in LA by the Eagles of Death Metal ()

I guess I'm looking for a versatile Fuzz ?

From a fellow german: check out the crush the button shop from Belgium. it is a bit cheaper than Effektboutique.de
The swollen pickle is versatile for a Muff but it is not that handy to have to use the trimpots inside the pedal.
The Musketfuzz is also quite nice.
I am in the market for a new fuzz, too. At the moment I am using an EHX BBM with an LS-2 to make it more versatile.
Since I am going for a more dark throaty tone, I will have to check out a BB sometime, or a Mojo Hands Colossus. The later one out of interest because it seems to be 20 € cheaper.

I don't know if anything gets more versatile than the Iron Ether Oxide: http://ironether.com/pedals/oxide/

I used to have one, but found my Supercollider Beast covered all my needs when run through a Sansamp Bass Driver DI.

But I will probably get one again at some point.

Sounds good, man!

Speaking of Morbid Angel, Domination is pretty damn doomy. It's also got lots of effects on the vocals and dual guitar harmonies. I think that record gets overlooked sometimes, but it's probably my favorite from them.

I use a Colossus, solid muff clone, UBER versatile fuzz. The mids knob really cuts through the mix. I just wish I had a different color, like the white on white, instead of orange-ish brown.

Whoa, I wish Northless was a local band in my area! I like them a lot, got their split LP with Light Bearer. Those posters are sweet as well. Everyone has such cool bands in this thread... That Supervoid poster was so great.

I'm gonna try my damnedest to go to that Graveyard show. The Shrine is opening, too. Should be a killer show.
