I wrote that new song, which I love, at a breakneck pace for me...and it's been finished without vocals for at least a month now. I don't know if I'm really sick of it or I'm just way out of the habit and I need to get some momentum back.

Pretty noisey and not very transparent. Post mod it's an absolute different beast all together. Some people use them for vocals they are so transparent. I'm sure there's better compressors out there for lots of dough, but I have yet to find anything that beats it bang-for-buck.
The Opto-Plus mod is transparent
The Ultra-Plus mod adds warmth and sparkle when the sustain is cranked. http://www.monteallums.com/pedal_mods.html

So far, I'm digging it. Spacey retro rock.

I can murder Barber of Seville. I was just f'ing off at practice and my drummer commented that my tone was "amazing". Too bad I can't find a way to use it.
For now, I'll keep attempting to mix Tom Waits and Lemmy

In other good news, or better news, is my dog's tumor is closer to a best case senario than a worst case senario. It does not seem to have spread and it is fairly detached from the thyroid so surgery should be able to remove all of the cancerous mass. On top of that it is a simple procedure and she should be fully recovered within a day or two after the surgery. Hopefully all goes well, we scheduled her in for the 15th of Jan. | Curious to hear your thoughts on the tone hammer and 412. And glad to hear about the dog. We took in a stray some time back and thought we were going to have to put him down right when we got him. He has been a great pain in the butt (still love him though )for about a year now and still going strong. His nick name is "street dog". |

For now, I'll keep attempting to mix Tom Waits and Lemmy | I feel you there, my range is really geared towards crooning and choral styles. I can sing the f*ck out of some Sinatra tunes. I still get comments from extended family and friends about singing "Fly Me To The Moon" to my wife at our wedding reception 10 years ago. Singing in bands though, I go really gruff and gravely as well. I might be able to pull off a sort of Crowbar vocal style for this new band. My first instinct was to go all clean and slant it towards a darker epic Doom Metal vibe. I dunno if anyone would dig that though. Not that I worry about what everyone else likes when I make music, but I can pull off a lot of different vocal styles. So there's no point in picking something that doesn't compliment the music as best as possible.
If I can push myself hard enough, I'll try recording several different styles for that song and see which one really pops.

I have a little ampeg micro-VR for when I need to practice quieter at home or if I'm going to a random informal jam and don't want to lug a big rig back and forth for a one time thing. It sounds pretty good and all and approximates my SVT-VR fairly well but it doesn't feel as good as cranking the real deal or the AD200B. | I still have my peavey VB-2 and I have another Dunwich (a 200watt tube slave power amp) called the Adamos that's hopefully getting built next year, so I'm not giving up on tubes just streamlining my live rig. moving forward once we release our new album in a few months I'm going to be pulling guitar / bass / and bass synth duties in the band. I'm going to be running both my bass and bass synth through my pedalboard / DI / and live rig, plus hauling around a guitar rig. Having one less tube amp to carry around reduces fear of something going wrong, also since both the bass and synth will be going to FOH, i'd rather have a solid state amp to get a similar tone as I will in the FOH so that any EQ adjustments i make dont completely throw off the FOH mix. I'm actually ashamed I thought and wrote that. | My band is even talking expanding to all of us using IEM's too, not just our singer. alot of our new songs require backing tracks, and some members can't seem to keep the same BPM through the entire song. And since stage monitoring is dodgy at best its our best solution.

Just so you know, my acoustic lead sled is 200 watts and its barely enough and I just battle a loud drummer and one guitar, although that guitar has 8x12's.
